Hope all of those over 70s have got their passport to hand... 😈 Quite an interesting point. Two of the three attempts by the Tories to gerrymander elections have blown up in their faces. The totally pointless ID appears likely to deter mostly people who would have voted Tory and opening voting up to more expats is now projected to work against them too. Bless. I understand they are trying to destroy the independence of the Electoral Commission also which would be outrageous.

Indeed. I did say it tongue in cheek, but it may become a factor. Or they may turn up without a passport, get turned away, hate the Tories more, then return ready to put the X elsewhere.

Thing is a lot of over 70s don't have a passport. They can get a special voting ID but quite a faff so probably many will not bother.

Not only are there a lot more over 65 Tory voters, they are twice as likely to vote as the right on lefty 18 -24 demographic. In fact, the reason the Conservative Party loves cottontops is that they always vote, while the younger groups tend to spend their time talking through the issues and well, doing sod all.
My brother took a party of friends to Italy for the skiing. They are blind and he is 81. He wasn't bothered by a few bits of paper. I spend much of my life trying to stay alive, which means dealing with endless bumf. I imagine that getting a new ID card won't be the end of the world
The last ten polls suggest that the Tories are on 24% and Labour 45%, which means that the brothers and sisters should be home and dry. The problem is that much of the fashionable Labour party is barely able to contain its contempt for the grassroots Tory oldies, and that has a tendency to the latter bouncing back and biting Labour in the arse

Most definitely NOT a faff and takes 5 mins to apply, 4 of which were ticking boxes to say i did not have any of the other ID’s to hand. Our entire street applied as did everyone without a passport at the last ward meeting after i showed them how to do it on their phones….

I think we both know that isn't true John.

Voter ID is not an issue for older people - you can use your Driving Licence, Blue Badge or free Bus Pass. All things that youngsters are unlikely to have. It's not really surprising that Labour have said this requirement is gerrymandering to make it easy for Tory voters and harder for theirs..

Many elderly people have long since given up their driving license and hence blue badge and don’t have a bus pass Pacifico. In fact my mum is one of them. She won’t vote this time.

Greenland is mostly empty. Indeed, that's because they had the good sense to leave the EU.

What was the feedback following the trial in the local elections last year? Voter iD is a non-issue. Out of all those who went to their polling station, the proportion who couldn’t show ID and who did not return to vote ranged from 0.03% to 0.7%.

I think a lot of what happens at the next election relies on the campaigns run by the Tories, but even more so by Labour. Ignoring the minor parties, Starmer and his team need to make a proper case for government based on some sound costed policies. The constant wavering of the last months and U-turns must be replaced with robust policy.
Anything else will see Labour fail to get a proper majority i.m.o.

Weren't plenty of people complaining until recently about how easy it was to vote...?
