It was never about saving lives, it was about saving the country. And had Covid been allowed to run rip the NHS would have failed by the end of April 2020 and for every one that died many more (ie millions and millions) feared it and with that level of fear, no NHS and every other country in the world refusing travellers incl drivers from the UK (so chronic food shortages) we very much would have been looking at societal collapse. We had to lockdown and we had to support people and businesses as a result and we also had to support healthcare. And yes it cost a fortune we had to borrow and while some of it was wasted and some went to that Tory loaded VIP lane, by and large it was the least worst option.

I'm struggling to understand the point of the OP.
There was a global pandemic, we had to have a lockdown because it was starting to get way out of control, and it ran the risk of overwhelming our healthcare systems, which would have led to people dying of treatable conditions.
As a result of the lockdowns, we had to furlough people and provide business support. These lockdowns shut down global manufacturing and created severe shortages of everything, which drove up prices (inflation). When global manufacturing started back up it was playing catch up so it needed extra energy, which drove up the price of energy (inflation).
Now we have idiots denying any responsibility for their part in it. The lockdowns were universally supported, furlough and business support was universally supported. Mass testing and vaccination was universally supported. All this debt and inflation we have now is a result of UNIVERSALLY SUPPORTED actions, but instead of taking responsibility, some people want to blame our situation on mismanagement and corruption.
It is pathetic, take responsibility for your part in it.

Throughout History every Country in the World must waste money, since records began Wars and conflicts have raged, why do you think they rage? They rage because it's a smoke screen to cover up lots of corruption within governments, it gets that complicated that basically no one knows what's going on, least of all the general public, we are just drip fed utter lies, and we fall for it all the time. Wars makes individuals and countries very wealthy, let's face it how can you make mega billions living in a peaceful world. So what country that is very wealthy had you in mind. If it went by corruption and sleaze then England bought and sold by Russian gangster Gold by a parcel o rouges in a nation. Johnston and Farage spring to mind. How is England bankrupt. But its government members are millionaires. You will be telling me next they are trying to level up. By giving £84,000 to those who do not work. Or was it some other tooth fairy government who really paid it.

God it is unbelievable. Those who still believe the fanny it was the fault of Putin and Covid. It was 100% the fault of the useless bunch of clueless wankers who call themselves a government who finally destroyed what was left of the economy in 44 days. In what was jokingly referred to as a mini budget. Could I suggest being called massive disaster more appropriate. As the apologist waffle more havering slastering nonsense.

I'm struggling to understand the point of the OP... I believe that the point is to blame the Tories, even though the measures were universally supported (and indeed, Labour wanted to go even further).

You are a biased fool detached from all reality. We were 2.8 TRILLION in debt, and inflation was 12% before Truss even set foot in office. All caused by UNIVERSALLY ACCEPTED lockdowns and sanctions against Putin. Your First Minister and the opposition parties wanted tougher and longer lockdowns, so pray tell how we would have been any better off if they had been in power? hahahahahaha

If they labour had been in power they would of called lockdown a week earlier what would of saved thousands of lives even if it was longer it would of saved lives .
What price can you put on lives and im sure labour wouldn't of sent thousands into care homes without being vaccinated what caused thousands of lives.

Why don't you piss off to Wales, you might even be able to do some good there, although if you were there you would probably be making irrelevant comments about other countries.

So you are saying that the vaccination program was a waste of money? Well has going to perserving life yea wernt we the first country to vacctionate people fat lot of good that did. just wondered how our vaccination didnt prevent has many deaths as the EU what did they do what we didnt They bent the figures hahaha. I used to look at them daily and it was amazing how Spanish deaths went to zero every holiday season, despite their ICU figures still being high lol. ...but seriously, there was no standard way of measuring deaths, even England and Scotland did it differently. Excess deaths: West Europe Average 140% England 125% Scotland 130% Wales 135% N.Ireland 132% Germany 121% France 124% Spain 186% Italy 227%. www.thelancet.com/action/showFullTableHTML?isHtml=true&tableId=tbl1&pii=S0140-6736%2821%2902796-3

It is pathetic, take responsibility for your part in it. Lockdowns weren't universally supported. Sweden didn't impose lockdowns - they just told people to behave sensibly and avoid large gatherings. And the figures of excess deaths (possibly the best way of measuring the success or otherwise of a nation's covid policy) show Sweden did better than almost all the rest of Europe: Excess death totalsBut agree with the general point that govts all took the action that they believed would be best for the country. Our Sage committee told us to lock down or massive numbers of people would die (thanks Neil Ferguson) but that wasn't true. Of course it still might have been necessary to lockdown to avoid overwhelming the NHS. It's a very complex subject - and I don't think the OP understands this.

Which bit about it was never about the deaths isn't getting through to you? It was about saving the NHS (and was stated as such at the time) and in turn saving the country.

I'm struggling to understand the point of the OP... I believe that the point is to blame the Tories, even though the measures were universally supported (and indeed, Labour wanted to go even further). The Tories were late to react to early relevant information and late to take action even when the pandemic was upon us. We can't just assume that Labour would have been just as bad.
