A while back he was invited to discuss Climate Change and he sensibly replied no, sod off, I lots to do in the UK and since the Eco Warriors started gluing themselves to the M25, no one in the UK likes them very much anyway. He could have further replied that he would read all about it in the Guardian and save the taxpayers the cost of the trip.
But then he decided to go and is now getting abused by the world's professional paupers who want handouts because they think living below sea level.
I never liked the bloke, but I thought that he was smarter than this

China and India do not look too keen either. Both President Xi and PM Modi are sitting it out. It seems to me it is a horror show.

I just see it as a PR opportunity.
We're already a world leader moving towards cleaner energy, and I don't see that changing.
Nor is it a bad thing.
I very much doubt our foreign aid budget is going to change dramatically as a result of anything said or done here.

And I don't like the cold, so we can put all the polar bears and eco warriors in a zoo and the rest of us could enjoy the sunshine.
But my point is Sunak, rightly or wrongly, appears to be jumping through fashionable hoops and that may appeal to Islington, but I can't see that winning him any votes with the public at large.

I never liked the bloke, but I thought that he was smarter than this
According to Sunak he has posted on Twitter why he changed his mind Writing on Twitter, Mr Sunak said: 'There is no long-term prosperity without action on climate change. There is no energy security without investing in renewables. 'That is why I will attend Cop27 next week: to deliver on Glasgow's legacy of building a secure and sustainable future.' The PM previously said he had to focus on Britain's 'depressing domestic challenges' but faced growing pressure to join other world leaders at the conference next week. Mr Sunak changed his mind on attending the Sharm El-Sheikh gathering after making 'good progress' on those domestic matters, including the Autumn Statement later this month, according to Downing Street. 'He has always recognised the importance of this summit and indeed on tacking climate change more generally,' said the PM's official spokesman. 'We wanted to make sure we were making good progress on the Government’s domestic agenda and the Autumn Statement in particular. 'Following discussions with the Chancellor (Jeremy Hunt) this week he has now agreed to attend. The PM feels there is sufficient space to make this trip.' The spokesman said Mr Sunak was hoping to make progress on the commitment to halt deforestation by 2030 and to agree new partnerships on clean and renewable energy. He added there was 'unanimous agreement' that King Charles will still not attend Cop27, despite Mr Sunak's decision to go.

Indeed, even if everything climate change activists were saying was true, until China, India and the USA, who between them make up over 50% of the worlds CO2 emissions make significant changes, everything else is fairly incosequential. The UK attributes to ~1%, even if we could somehow snap our fingers and reduce that by 50% overnight, it would make no difference until there is significant changes by the major 3 contributors. So my take away is, it's just points scoring on the international stage - it's not to be entirely ignored or dismissed, I mean, being a leader on something like this isn't a bad thing and it will please some folk back home he's doing something about what is becoming a more popular issue for people to be concerned about. I do agree with the sentiments though - I doubt any serious labour supporters are going to change their vote just because of this.

not attending a major world conference - the first of his regime - would have further diminished our credibility on the world stage. the earlier decision not to attend suggests Sunak is alarmingly in hock to the loonies on the right wing of his party.
no one has ever suggested we can fix this world problem without the bigger countries also doing their part - especially China and US. indias emissions per head are already low.

Two of the worst polluting nations in the world Sure, which makes anything the UK does rather small. Even if all life on this island was wiped out I think it would only reduce global emissions by less than 1%. China and India will have the economic advantage for decades to come. They must be laughing.

If China doesn't act to limit climate change, it will most certainly not be "laughing". Just like the rest of humanity, it will be very very seriously affected by the catastrophic damage mankind is causing to the only planet we have.
