He'll probably make a good foreign secretary, however, he's not elected.
I really hate appointing members of the Lords to Cabinet jobs. They've hundreds of MPs to choose from. This is lazy.

Looks like he didn't see sufficient talent with experience there. Given the cabinets that we've had since 2019 it's hard to disagree.

This is incredible, Sunak is absolutely tone deaf. Cameron isn't even an MP ffs, he's been fast tracked into the Lords so he can be appointed secretary of state by the back door. This is EU style democracy and will be a very unpopular appointment not only with Tory Brexiteers but also with Labour voters who voted for Brexit. Cameron is like Sunak, they are both centrist conservatives. According to Savanta just 24% of people have a positive opinion of Cameron. This is great news for Richard Tice and Reform.

It is indeed extraordinary reflecting the utter chaos this shambolic Government has been in. It seems they have run out of vaguely competent ministers and are having to go round again....
Being objective however, much as I want to laugh at the Tories, this might actually make some sense for them.
Cameron, while a dinosaur, is experienced and credible. They don't intend foreign policy to be high profile between now and the election and I suspect the aim here is to park a vaguely credible figure in post to deal with anything that comes up while focusing elsewhere.
Cleverley, while I don't agree with his politics, does appear to me to be competent and more interested in resolving problems than in gaining tabloid headlines. He has a very difficult job sorting out the utter shambles the incompetent Braverman has left but if he does I suspect he will become the obvious choice for next Tory leader.
Whether the Tory civil war can be held in check for a year until an election next October seems very doubtful, however. I wonder if this is the first step in a move to an early election.
