Most threads on here as they come to an end switch to who is far left and far right. So I thought, lets try and define what people want from their left or right wing governments. Not the extremes of fascist or communist In particular have we had too many centre ground governments trying to please everyone and failing to please anyone? That thought came off the back of something I've seen several on here say, but particularly Pacifico who just said (I paraphrase) "Name one Tory thing the Conservatives have done in the last 13 years" Basically is the reason the country is not flying high due to a lack of courage from either side? I disagree, I wouldn't have thought there were many if any on this forum who could reasonably be described as far right or far left. There are certainly lefties bless em, but I would have thought the majority are probably centrist/centre right. I think the problem is, over the past decade or so politics has quietly moved to the left, and I'm not just talking about this country but across Europe and indeed the western world, but I'll focus on this country. The reason politics is so polarised is because there's little difference between Labour and conservative. They have both moved to the centre which is boring and as long as this political malaise continues politics will remain boring. We need the Conservatives to be Conservative, proper old fashioned centre right Conservatives not wishy washy touchy feely conservatives. They should leave that to Labour and the LibDems. It would come as a breath of fresh air, it would revitalise Tory voters and give the left something to whinge about.

The trouble with these type of posts Red, is that they always start by assuming the poster is pretty central. I hate to disillusion you, but you are far from being central old boy. You're a raving and ill informed Right Winger. ๐

Says another Right Winger. Next. QED. Nope. Two right wingers don't prove a centralist.

This is one of lifeโs mysteries. Why are right wingers so keen to deny being right wingers and pretend they are central in some way. Being right wing is perfectly legitimate. Why not own it though?

Why do some lefties insist that anyone who is even slightly right of centre is a far right extremist? For the record, I used to be a fully paid up card carrying member of the Labour party, you can laugh but it's true. And whenever I do the political compas test, which I know isn't scientific, I'm always very slightly 'left' of centre. However, today I identify as a centre right Conservative.

I was a Union rep and a staunch Labour supporter and voter. I even voted for Blair twice and came close to voting for Brown. After that the veils were lifted from my eyes.

Frankly no interest what you used to be. Now you are very much on the right. And thatโs perfectly fine. Just really odd that you seem so keen to deny your reality. Why?
