I suppose you have to scape the bottom of the barrel when there’s nothing much in it . When you see Bernie Grant and Lynton Kwasie Johnson then you must know there isn’t much to choose from …and ABBOT ?ffs

I have never experienced poverty. I've read about poverty in the 1930's 40's and 50's, but I've never experienced anything like that. No one in this country today lives in poverty like that. When we were young kids we were poor but we certainly didn't live in poverty. We always had clean smart school uniforms that mum ironed every Sunday evening. We always sat around a dining table for meals. And if we were naughty we would get a good hiding, and rightly so. The reason my brother and I didn't go off the rails is because thank god we had a strong mother who was strict, she had to be. You ask why I cant "pull myself up by my bootstraps". I think you missunderstand. I retired at 60 because I could. Mrs R and I live rent/mortgage free in a nice property in a nice area, we have no debt and live very comfortably because I worked hard and btw, I have never claimed benefits of any sort. I never expected anyone to do anything for me, I pulled my bootstraps up when I was a kid. The problem with kids today is they're pampered. Indeed we're not even allowed to call them 'kids' today are we. They're young people or young adults. Is it any wonder the little darlings feel entitled when stupid adults brainwash them with trendy left wing bullshit. I did say "relative to the UK at the time" I was poor. And like I said, you and I might have worked out way up and out of relative poverty but we did it in a world that no longer exists. I don't know what it's like to be relatively poor in the UK today or how difficult it is to get out of it, the impression I get is social mobility is less than it was in my day. A good example of that for me was going to university, I was lucky in that students still got grants back then, I couldn't do it today with the crippling debt that comes with it. Care workers are not deemed as professionals...

Quote: Hero noun 1. A person distinguished by exceptional courage, nobility and fortitude. None of the people in that list are hero's. Not one of them. It's nothing more than minority appeasing woke virtue signalling. We all know this, we're just not supposed to say it out loud. I mean Lenny Henry a hero! Abacus Abbott a hero! Why? Who on earth decided these people were hero's?

It's one thing for Blacks in Britain to anoint their own particular heroes but another thing entirely to claim that they've earned Britain's thanks.
You'd be had put to identify a single benefit that any of these 'heroes' have bestowed on the country as a whole, as opposed to other Blacks.
It's all very self-serving.

Lenny Henry contributed so much to black Britons when he was resident comedian on the Black and White minstrel show .

Lenny Henry contributed so much to black Britons when he was resident comedian on the Black and White minstrel show . How did abacus earn such a high acholade in the micky mouse link? Abacus she cannot find a matching pair of shoes and wear them on the correct feet. And she has a son who is a a frigging criminal.
Shadow Home Secretary Diane Abbott's privately-educated son, 28, is charged with 11 offences including exposing himself and attacks on police and NHS staff

LOL..
Lenny Henry, Diane Abbott ... both got where they are today with the aid of the lefties and the white people who they both loath, whinged and whined playing the race card every step of the way, two talentless constant whingebags.
Trevor MacDonald is OK

No more than Reginald Bosanquet was. Reginald Bosanquet, good heavens there's a name from the past. Just googled him, didn't realise he died so young. Died of cancer in May 1984 aged 51. Apparently his death was overshadowed by the death of Eric Morecambe.

A quick totting-up of the twenty black heroes who the Guardian says that Britain owes thanks to indicates that the principal claim to fame of no fewer seven of them is as a 'race activist'.
Additionally there are three politicians, two novelists, two abolitionists, a nurse-hotelier, an actor, a composer, a 'dub'-poet, a make-up artist and an escaped slave.
Where on earth would the country be now if not for their contributions?
I know Wally's looking in from time to time - he's keeping tab on the number of pages in this thread - and wonder whether he'd feel himself clear to giving us the benefit of his personal insights. After all, as he tells us on every occasion he turns up here 'Black Lives Matter'.
The same invitation is extended to anyone else who can shed light on this eternal mystery.
