Starmer vows not to 'diverge from EU' as Labour leader wants to 'share future' with BrusselsSir Keir Starmer has vowed not to diverge from the European Union as the Labour leader hopes to forge closer relations with Brussels. The Leader of the Opposition appeared to go beyond his often cautious comments about Brexit at an event on Saturday alongside the Norwegian leader Jonas Gahr Store. Responding to a question from former Tony Blair aide John McTernan, Sir Keir said: "Most of the conflict with the UK being outside of the EU arises in so far as the UK wants to diverge and do different things to the rest of our EU partners. Obviously the more we share values, the more we share a future together, the less the conflict. linkIt would seem Starmer has decided to double down on his support for the EU. Sounds like Blair has got to him.

As for Blair well we all know what a sticky fingered character he is, if you pretend you don't, then you are lying to yourself as well as anybody else you might come in contact with.

Indeed. He appears to be shooting himself in both feet. He insists on forcing people into fuel poverty with net zero, and he wants to take us back into the EU. He really doesn't want to win the election does he. Good man.

He really doesn't want to win the election does he. Good man. Net zero forcing people into poverty is an opinion, people are in poverty without net zero plans and our dependence on fossil fuels. It will, of course, cost to set up the infrastructure, develop the technology and implement net zero but the price of using fossil fuels is even higher, on our pockets, for our planet and for our health. If we lead with net zero technology we will be in at the start instead of having to buy the technology later, that's just common sense. Although that comes to nought if you believe there is no climate emergency, as Trump does.

That is £50 Billion that we wouldnt have to spend if we decided not to go down that route.

Net zero when there is sufficient infrastructure like nuclear power, biofuels / synthetic fuels etc, no problem. Net zero without infrastructure = chaos.

My ridiculous point of view about net zero has been soundly trashed in other threads?? Your problem, seems to be, that you do not like people disagreeing with you because your arguments are weak.

What EU policies do you not want to diverge from and why?
And without infrastructure including lots of nuclear power stations, fuel synthesis / algal biofuels, Net Zero will be missed anyway.
Every new electric car produces as much CO2 during construction as keeping an old car on the road for fifty thousand miles. Don't take my word for it, Google it.
I learned this whilst listening to Radio 4.
Oh and there isn't enough capacity in the grid for everyone to have electric cars anyway.

The construction process is being refined all the time, that's what happens with new technology. Infrastructure is something that can be improved by proper investment, the good outweighs the bad.
