Last time Labour were in power, the NHS estate underwent its biggest rebuilding and refurbishment / modernisation programme in its history. The number of new schools, spending on schools and refurbishment of old buildings was all considerably higher than at any time under this government. school buildings have deteriorated since 2010 through lack of investment, and only the other day a spokesperson for the local education authorities stated on the "PM programme" on Radio Four, that one third of all schools are now beyond the time for repairs. This is yet another damning indictment on a government which has failed miserably on all of our public services

UK war costs This came from a government fund called the "Special Reserve" which at the time had a balance of £7.4 billion ($10.14 billion). According to the Ministry of Defence, the total cost of UK military operations in Iraq from 2003 to 2009 was £8.4bn.

The Tories have 'knowingly' been putting our kids at risk by allowing the nations schools to crumble. Stop with the lies. It's the department of education who should have been planning and implementing for this years ago. Typical comment from a Marxist, when things go wrong in the public sector its the governments fault, and when things go right it's the people's efforts that get the accolades.

The Tories have 'knowingly' been putting our kids at risk by allowing the nations schools to crumble. And past administrations knowingly built public buildings with a lifespan of 30 years because they ruled in the short term and thought “ **** this by the time they fall down we’ll be long gone” and laughed. Sunak may be many things but if you really believe this is the fault of the present govt and you’re not political point scoring ( and you are and we all know it) but if by an outside chance you believe it so your brain and thought processes are of the same consistency and value of that concrete, full of air and ready to crumble.

Certainly I'm left wondering why anyone, be it a Politician of Civil Servant, would construct a Public Building using a construction method with only a 30 year life span. I have a School building around the corner from me (although it is now a pub) that was constructed in 1740 and is in no danger of falling down.

I have a School building around the corner from me (although it is now a pub) that was constructed in 1740 and is in no danger of falling down. What is RAAC and why was it used?
RAAC stands for reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete. It is a lightweight building material that is mostly used in flat roofing and sometimes in floors and walls.
It has an aerated, bubbly texture, and was preferred as a cheaper alternative to standard concrete, as it was faster to produce and easier to install. However, the speed and ease come at a cost. RAAC is less durable and its lifespan is only around 30 years.
Plus, if it is exposed to moisture, it is prone to collapse, as the bubbles can allow water to enter the structure.

It's the department of education who should have been planning and implementing for this years ago. . . . They certainly have huge questions to answer and I suspect they haven't got any clever answers. But there's also a whole raft of school governors who are in the same position.
