Any policy that puts you in a lower gear with higher revs will not save fuel, or reduce pollution. There is ONLY one case for lower speed limits that has any validity. Survival rates for pedestrians in an accident are far higher at 20mph than at 30mph. Modern cars can quite comfortably be driven in third or even fourth gear. I do it every day. Saying lives or catastrophic injuries is paramount. Why not drive everywhere at 10 mph then?

I read an article recently about the rather rapid decline in tourism in Wales, the numbers of English people visiting Wales has dropped and consequently the income in the holiday areas has dropped, this is even before Drakeford has introduced his English tourist tax, I enjoy my annual visit to Broadhaven, but if it takes me seventeen hours to drive there I might just spend my money in Ilfracombe.

Modern cars do not need to be new cars, not the same. 20mph for the sake of children, yeah! Not all built up areas are school crossings. Not all built up areas need 20mph speed limits. By a school, definitely. Outside my home? Nah. Quite happy to see cars go by at 30mph. You are lucky if you live somewhere where kids don't play out.

Coincendence or what RR?

Why not drive everywhere at 10 mph then? From the sublime............. Exactly. 30 mph is a reasonable compromise for a car's speed in town, taking into account risk and benefit. It has been at that speed for many years, because it works. Within 200 metres of schools there may be a case for 20mph, but not generally.

Kids don't play on main roads.
On side roads, around housing estates speed limits are already 20mph and even 10mph in places. But there's no need to reduce the speed on main roads, unless near a school, where children cross.
There are enough places for children to play without them playing with traffic.

The new legislation is not a blanket speed limit on all roads, it simply changes the default speed limit on restricted roads from 30mph to 20mph. Highway authorities, who know their area best, engaged with their local communities to decide which roads should remain at 30mph.

The truth is that in a vote to scrap this bollox all but one of the Tories in the assembly voted to scrap it while the other abstained The vote was lost with 38 Nays from every Cottage Burner Every Lib Dem and all but six labour twats (who abstained) www.walesonline.co.uk/news/politics/live-updates-senedd-members-vote-27704577.ampAnyone who has ever tried to work out who voted which way on anything in that fucking madhouse knows they do their best to make the records as indecipherable as the cottage burners language but some heroic soul DID post a summary on arsebook which i will attempt to find In the meanwhile if you've any more complete fucking lies you want to try and slip past me, do carry on … 20s plenty. linkThat comes out as a blank white page.

What next? Mandatory employment of a man with a red flag walking in front of your car to warn people of your approach every time you go out in it? Back to the dark ages. The locomotive act of 1865, revamped as the Loonytunes act of 2023. That's progress Welsh style folks!!

It comes down to who is propping him up Ever since Clegg pissed the lib dem vote up the wall Twatford has been reliant on the cottage burner party. And they hate the english, view tourism as an evil that keeps wages at NMW levels and generally must be exterminated. And this is why Wales is now such a shitshow. Last year with the holiday business still fucked Moira and I spent our wedding anniversary week in South Devon / North Cornwall. We hadn’t been there for a few years and i have to say we felt welcome everywhere, even in Dartmoor Prison, the pubs were pleased to see us, the restaurants more so, and when i wandered into a greek restaurant in Plymouth barbican on our wedding anniversary and explained i should be sitting down in one in Zante but Covid and the twat in Cardiff Bay screwed us, they were delighted to rise to the challenge of equalling the food even if Plymouth couldn’t quite equal Argassi …. In stark contrast North Wales the year before was bloody miserable.

A lot of poorer motorists cannot afford a "modern car" but nevertheless need a car. 20mph speed limits near schools, yes, all for it. 20mph speed limits for the sake of the climate? Nah. Bad idea. Modern cars do not need to be new cars, not the same. 20mph for the sake of children, yeah! How did the children of the 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's and 90's even ever survive 30mph speed limits? So, a random arbitrary speed limit is introduced by a Labour nut, and Citizen Smith applauds this move. You could go one better CS, you could hit your net zero target and your phoney cry for child safety by making everyone use horse and cart! What's clear here is that Labour are no friend of the working class, this along with ULEZ shows how out of touch Labour are and they look more like a fringe, lunatic green mob with these ludicrious attacks against the motorist.
