A Tory MP said asylum seekers should ‘f*** off back to France’ if they don’t want to stay on the new Bibby Stockholm barge. The comments made by Lee Anderson have been defended by justice secretary Alex Chalk, who previously warned about ‘ugly bigotry’ in British politics. Mr Anderson told the Daily Express: ‘If they don’t like barges then they should f*** off back to France.’ Mr Chalk defended Mr Anderson’s claims on BBC Radio 4’s Today Programme and said: ‘Lee is expressing in salty terms I think something that people will understand, which is that the British people have warm hearts, but we also want to have a secure front door. metro.co.uk/2023/08/08/lee-anderson-says-asylum-seekers-should-f-off-back-to-france-19297369/Well said Lee Anderson. The Tories have a great opportunity here to win over the elctorate and win the next election, if only they got a grip of the illegal immigrant situation. The alternative is Labour and as we know, they have no answers other than to make a bad situation worse.

Not the most professional use of words, but I'm sure it will resonate around the country. Labour would be screaming racist and would have fast tracked them into council housing.

Oh I absolutely agree, not very professional language at all. But it does perhaps give an indication that people are getting pissed of with illegals and lefty lawyers.

We will only be pushed so far IMO, the Tories are struggling to come up with an solution , Labour has no answer to this growing problem either which gets bigger week in week out , it only stops for a short time when the weather in the Channel is bad

That the Tories tolerate this numpty speaks volumes about what they have become. A desperate attempt to appease the GB Newswatchers. No surprise to see their poll ratings as they are.

The international outcry would force the French to stop them putting to sea.

LOL, as expected. If this government do actually manage to stop illegals landing on English beaches, just watch their poll ratings go up.

I read the other day that over 7,000 have drowned crossing the Med I suspect it maybe higher than that, and that has not stopped them nor can various Border Controls , some have drowned crossing the Channel and in the backs of Lorries, but still they come, I doubt if the French would bat an eyelid if a boat load drowned even in their waters, certainly not if they drowned in UK waters I have learnt one new thing today about the numbers of Alleged Asylum Seekers awaiting a decision in the UK 136,779 application have been made and awaiting decisions , what I did not know is that one application does not mean one person, one application can cover several individuals.

Handyman, France have strengthened their border with Italy in an effort to stop illegals entering France. They also along with Germany have police and officials in Tunisia who are attempting to stop migrant boats putting to sea. But the EU spent years encouraging Africa to move to Europe, Merkel famously said 'Wir Schaffen Das' (We can manage)They now see it was a massive mistake and are putting money and resources into stopping illegals crossing the med. But have you noticed, they aren't even slightly bothered about illegals crossing the channel. The migrant disaster in the channel is 100% the fault of the EU but they choose to ignore it. Double standards, or must Britain be punished for Brexit? You choose.

I agree with you, we have Police National Crime Agency in the EU to track down and arrest the Smugglers , and also the Smugglers based in the UK , yes I remember what Merkel said stupid twat , yes the French as still angry that we left the EU, but they don't even like themselves IMO

I know he's a grandstanding twat-face MP (they all are) but we do need more like Lee Anderson who are prepared to tell it like it is.

Asylum Information Database | European Council on Refugees and ExilesAsylum Information Database | European Council on Refugees and ExilesPrimary Menu REGULAR PROCEDURE France Country Report: Regular procedure Last updated: 11/05/23 Author Forum Réfugiés Visit Website
General (scope, time limits)
The determining authority in France, OFPRA, is a specialised institution in the field of asylum, under the administrative supervision of the Ministry of Interior since November 2007 (see Number of staff and nature of the determining authority). Under French law, OFPRA has 6 months to take a decision under the regular procedure.[1] When a decision cannot be taken within 6 months, OFPRA has to inform the applicant thereof within 15 calendar days prior to the expiration of that period.[2] An additional 9-month period for OFPRA to take a decision starts and, under exceptional circumstances, it can even be extended for 3 more months.[3] Nevertheless, the law provides no consequences to non-compliance with these time limits.
In 2017, the Government set a target processing time of 2 months for asylum applications examined by OFPRA.[4] However, the average first-instance processing time for all procedures was 158 days in 2022, compared to 258 days in 2021 (still to a certain extent in the context of COVID-19).[5]
Average length of the asylum procedure at first instance (in days) 2019 2020 2021 2022 161 262 258 158
The backlog of pending cases reached 47,000 as of the end of 2022 (compared to 49,500 in 2021).[6] This decrease is mainly due both to the significant drop in asylum applications in 2020 and to a significant increase in OFPRA staff from September 2020.
Your problem is your Government.
BTW that "twat" is still indisting that migrants can be returned to France, a completely false populist premise. France has no legal connection to them until they claim asylum, the migrants have merely travelled through as some travel through Libya, Italy, Greece, Spain etc.
The UK used to have an agreement with France to return some . You voted that away with Brexit.
