Well here's a couple of reasons migrants can't go on them .. 1. It's not safe, it could have the Grenfell Tower fire hazards. 2. quote from migrant 'I can't go on it, I'm still traumatised with crossing of the channel in the Dinghy, every time I see water I have panic attacks and PTSD. And many more reasons they can't go on it, they are quite happy in their 4* hotels, on full board. *biggest eye roll ever*

So traumatise them by telling them if they DONT get on it we’ll throw them back in tbe damn sea then. I’ve had it with the bullshit. We need to get the message all the way back to where these people are coming from that life as a rubber boat invader is a bloody sight less pleasant than their smugglers tell them because that is the only way they’ll stop coming. Frankly i’d tow the barge back to shallow water off somewhere like Dunkirk fill it with smoke and shout ‘FIRE’

In respect of the High Court Judgement you refer to, the law is well defined, well publicised and of course was written by the Government Department concerned. Wouldn't they be well advised to act within the law they designed rather than flout it as with the cases you mention. Presumably they value tabloid headlines and acting tough ahead of the law. in case you hadn’t realised, and yiu clearly have not, ‘the law’ is quite easily changed. And should be.

Ok let's simplify it. The UK no longer accepts FOM. So FOM outside the UK only applies to EU member states. So anyone in or out of those member states can no long enter the UK legally under the FOM. So they have now devised a loophole that allows FOM to abuse the UK system by chartering dinghy's from France to the UK, full of illegal migrants (who could have claimed FOM, but can't after Brexit) who have been told by our dishonest solicitors to say they are 'asylum seekers' / refugees/ fleeing torture and persecution' ... but please don't mention you are really pissed off Freedom of Movement who can't move to the UK, so now you have to be in the guise of refugees/asylum seekers. My thanks to Dan for at least trying to explain the real world to Fairsociety. Appears he eventually gave up too in the face of the final paragraph. English words I grant you but seemingly lacking any meaning. Hard to conclude that this was written by a sentient human being - a badly programmed chat bot perhaps. Weird.

Regarding the Bibby Stockholm barge. The Home Office should paint it pink and rename it the Barbie Stockholm. Albanian illegals wouldn't go anywhere near it!

I hadn't thought that the concept that FoM is a right enjoyed only by EU nationals, and not any others, would be such a difficult one to grasp. But there we are.
Anyway this thread seems to have run its course. I'm starting another one on a different theme to do with asylum in the Mind Zone, your presence is requested dappy.
The basic question will be: Can we estimate how many would-be asylum seekers have simply disappeared into the 'community' over the years?

I can't promise to contribute to every thread, Dan but if the subject interests me and I think I have something relevant to add I'll do my best.
I'll save any substantive response until I have seen the context to the question you float but lets keep it in one thread at least, so no answer here.

Presumably they value tabloid headlines and acting tough ahead of the law. in case you hadn’t realised, and yiu clearly have not, ‘the law’ is quite easily changed. And should be. Quite so. And we need to streamline the asylum process as well, something like: "Did you arrive in the UK without permission?" If "Yes" then: "Did you arrive from another safe country?" If "Yes" then: Application Denied. There's no reason for any more complexity than that.

I think that's what the law now provides for (if that particular bit has come into effect yet).
But it only applies to arrivals after (from memory) 26 June.
The only remaining problem is then what to do with those inadmissible asylum claims, which will be the overwhelming of small boat arrivals after said date.
Not sure that bit's been fully thought through yet.

It is also the case Dan that the new law appears highly likely to conflict with international law and hence with other legislation on the UK statute book. This will create complex issues re which UK law takes precedence that the UK courts will have to resolve.
Of course a cynic may well conclude that the new law was not intended to be of practical use but was intended merely to generate positive headlines in tabloids in an attempt to grub up votes from the the GB Newswatchers......

You could be right. It wouldn't be the first government initiative to generate more heat than light.

The so called "Portland Barge" is an accommodation vessel built to house 222 people
The government is expecting it to house over 500 people
The very militant FBU ( Fire Brigades Union ) has demanded a meeting with Suella Braverman, amid "grave concerns" about Lack of entrance and exit points - narrow corridors and doorways - over-occupancy - fire fighters lives will be put at risk if a fire breaks out.
"The FBU believes fire safety standards are universal and apply to everyone. These matters are both industrial and political. They matter because our members will be called upon in the event of an emergency.
They also matter to us because fire and rescue is a humanitarian service, designed to protect everyone regardless of their circumstances or background. Fire does not discriminate and therefore neither should safety regulations.
Firefighting operations on vessels such as the Bibby Stockholm provide significant challenges and require specialist training and safe systems of work. The diminished safety provisions only exacerbate our operational concerns"
The government can look out if the FBU are on the war path
