Yes. They fled to neighbouring countries and then we gave them permission to come to the UK. Perhaps that's how we should treat other refugees? That would stop the boats. Either way are you agreeing with Jonsky that refugees must by law seek asylum in the first safe country they arrive in. Because its the truth that is why so many others agree with my statement. |

Oh don't talk rubbish. They did not apply for visa's before fleeing the war and coming to the UK. They did - no Ukrainian was allowed in until they had been given leave to enter. Until that happened they waited where they were. Now if you are suggesting that we treat all migrants the same as Ukrainians and make them wait overseas until they have been granted asylum I would find myself in total agreement. And now upto 10k are under threat of deportation as their visa's have expired. Very many want to become UK citizens as they have nothing to go back to. At least they have been carrying out meaningful work unlike the dross the EUSSR have foist upon us. Zany mentioned the Ukrain because he knows full well I would defend them until my dying breath.. |

I would want it to reflect the world as it is now,economic migrants as opposed to those in genuine need,a coherent policy to support people closer to their homelands so they can return. What do you want? |

It is jaw dropping that we know there is a war raging in Ukraine, we know their are victims of that war who are genuine refugees of war, not one single person in the UK would or should deny any one of those refugees asylum in the UK.
To think they are fighting the UK system is quite frankly a travesty, yet tens of thousands of young single fit healthy criminal Albania's, who are fleeing no wars, no threat to life, they are just here to abuse the system, yet they have entered the UK illegally with no legitimate right or validity to claim asylum yet have more right and better support than those genuine Ukraine victims of war.
And that's the warped system we have in the UK.

It's not a fire trap, grow a backbone and stop being so left wing ffs. There are homeless people in this country who would be extremely grateful for a room on that 'barge'. The ungrateful foreign criminals who are refusing to go there should be handed a tent and dumped in a field behind high razor wire fences. |

Your answer as to what changes should be made to the Convention was particularly vague, Wapentake. Always much easier to shout that it should be changed than defining how it should be changed, perhaps.
While it is not impossible that people from Albania would justifiably qualify for asylum, I think those instances would be expected to be rare. No one is arguing that all claimants should be accepted.

No, but since January 2021 asylum claims can be deemed inadmissible if the claimant has a demonstrable connection to a safe country.
