Shapps always has been a clown - if the orders had been placed at the start of the energy crisis the damn things would be half built by now.

It's a good short term policy.
Long term however will require hydrogen. Lots of hydrogen.

Well on the face of it its good news but all the while Sunak and Hunt are milking the industry with 75% tax on profits I dont see anything actually getting built. Also come next year there is a very good chance that Labour will be in charge and they have already said they want to increase tax rates on oil producers. So given that investment is being cut back on existing projects due to the taxation issue I doubt any company is going to make any significant investment in these new licences. I don't understand why small modular reactors (SME's) are proving to be so difficult to get off the ground. Apparently Rolls Royce say they are ready to start building once the government give them the go ahead, but this morning on GB News economist Liam Halligan said energy secretary Grant Shapps has delayed making a decision until 2029! Schapps is a prat. British jobs, British workers, British energy independence. What's to decide?

Sensible energy and environmental legislation could help turn the electoral tide for the Tories — it's all the other deceit, lies and mismanagement of the economy (along with the memory of five prime ministers) they have to try and bury in the meantime.
Oil and gas is going to be needed for some time yet — maybe more for energy than transport — so it makes sense to use what's local and not rely on foreign sources and supply routes.
But I don't see why alternatives and renewables should not also continue to be developed and used — the technologies are constantly improving.
Nuclear has to be on the table too — unfortunately Grant Schaaps (or is it Michael Green, Corinne Stockheath or Sebastian Fox) seems to be in charge, which hardly gives confidence...

probably because Sunak’s wife’s company isn’t involved. Ouch, a tad cynical JoG. possibly and i’ve been out of this game a while but i thought these units were based on the reactors built for installation in our nuclear powered submarines. I knew some of the people involved, independent chartered engineers and naval architects, and all little guys. Blair screwed me and tried to screw them as well, and disasters like the passport office and the post office financial accounting system are the result. So yes, cynicism borne of years in the business.

Rishi is on a roll. He is not just approving new oil licences... Rishi Sunak is said to be considering a crackdown on councils imposing 20mph speed limits in his latest bid to prove he is “on the side” of motorists. The push against what he has dubbed “anti-motorist” policies could limit local authorities’ powers to create lower speed limit zones and other measures, such as bus gates.
It comes after Mr Sunak ordered a review of low-traffic neighbourhoods (LTNs) amid rising Tory concern that policies aimed at curbing the use of cars could cost them votes at next year’s general election.
The renewed pitch to win over motorists comes after the Conservatives’ narrow victory in the Uxbridge and Ruislip by-election earlier this month, which saw the Tory candidate win over voters concerned about the expansion of Sadiq Khan’s London’s ultra-low emissions zone (Ulez).www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/rishi-sunak-20mph-speed-limit-ulez-b2384711.htmlClearly Sunak has decided to create clear water between Labour and the Conservatives. And the good news is, Starmer and the eco mentalists who fund Labour know the electorate will approve.

Here's another reason not to vote them...
Labour will order councils to find green-belt land to fix housing crisis
Lisa Nandy, shadow levelling-up secretary, plans to solve problem within 10 years as she targets political ‘cowardice’
** Brilliant Labour will cut down every tree in sight, turn our greenbelt into concrete jungles to house their new breed of voters. Dopey Nandy thinks that's a vote winner FFS

Which is why Sunak is changing tack.

Nope, net zero is a pile of tosh. It's all about control of the masses.
Time to wake up and say "No".
