Great article from Ben Habib the ex MEP. It is a good example of how useless the Tories have become... "In 2019 we paid France £3.2 million to stop the boats; result: the number of illegal migrants increased from 1,800 in 2019 to 8,500 in 2020. In 2020 we paid a whopping £54 million; result: the number of illegal migrants increased to 28,000 in 2021.
Sticking to the same failed plan, we paid £55 million in 2021; result: the number of illegal migrants increased to 46,000 in 2022. And in 2022 we paid £63 million; result: the number of illegal migrants is forecast to increase to 80,000 this year.
The more we have paid, the greater the number that have crossed the Channel.
Encouraged by his complete failure, Sunak has promised to pay £500 million to the French over the next three years for the same end!! Is he stark raving mad? Even the bluntest knife in the box knows he is rewarding bad behaviour and encouraging the crossings.
Prime Minister take note: it is in France’s interest to allow the crossings to continue; especially if you pay them ever increasing sums of money in return for nothing!"
“Why doesn’t the UK Government insist on Macron taking his illegal migrants back?”

I have just recieved an email from Dorset Council kindly advising me of all the provisions they are putting in place for the 500 new British who will be living at our expense in the barge at Portland, one sentence caught my eye.
The asylum seekers accommodated on the vessel will not be detained and will be free to come and go while adhering to the health and safety regulations of the port itself. The Home Office will provide a bus service to take asylum seekers from the port to destinations agreed with local agencies. The objective is for most of these destinations to be linked to activities for the asylum seekers, arranged through the local community and voluntary sector.
Local partners have a collective responsibility to ensure the safety of people residing in the county and as such, the residents of Bibby Stockholm are entitled to make use of local services including access to secondary healthcare as appropriate and registering with a GP practice.
It is impossible to see a GP at the moment, and I can't help feeling that this may add to the problems that we are facing. What a fucking mess this country is in.

Not like anybody is going to admit it, but we are seeing the total failure of the made-up services industry. Not for the first time either, so being part of the EU never made an iota of difference.

Perhaps if the Thatcher government had imposed the sort of drastic restrictions on immigration that Pakistani-born Habib is lobbying for now now he wouldn't be here today lecturing us about the need for it.

Here's the truth, and why Tony Blair and Labour are to blame.
Tony Blair
He oversaw the largest expansion of the EU to date in 2004 when ten new nations were added to the bloc, eight of which are situated in Eastern Europe such as Estonia, Hungary and Poland.
He then imposed no limits on the number of immigrants who could move to the UK, a decision which even many of the other key EU member states decided not to take.
As Mr Blair’s former Home Secretary Jack Straw confessed back in 2013 in an interview with The Telegraph, it was a “spectacular mistake” to open up Britain borders in 2004

An illegal migrant from Libya / Syria / Afghanistan / Sudan or Iran who passes over, or crosses France to get to another country is not the responsibility of France.
To say that "France should take them back" carries no legal weight, they are not the responsibility of France.
A Syrian who crosses France to get to the UK or Germany or whichever country is the responsibility of either Syria or the UN, specifically the United Nations High Commission for Refugees.
Perhaps if the UN, perhaps working with NATO and other international bodies such as The Arab League and Gulf Co-operation Council created Safe Enclaves or Safe Havens on the edge of conflict zones, built decent habitable accommodation, provided schools and hospitals, there would be somewhere safe to send these people.
We have created Safe Havens before, and if this route were to be taken, these people would be closer to their homes, nearer to their own people.
Turkey has more refugees from Syria than any other country, perhaps Turkey might be more willing to build more "Refugee Towns" if the West, the EU and others helped Turkey out financially and in other practical ways.

Meanwhile yesterday 13 boats crossed the Channel 686 more alleged Asylum Seekers in just one day Just read that, when is this madness going to stop, they can't find places for the ones already here, they need to get their act together, start sticking them on remote islands in Scotland, once they realise that's where they are getting dumped it will quickly stop the flow.

We have always said there's no war in France and it's a safe country but judging by the recent news I wouldn't be so sure about that.

If the French will not cooperate then our only recourse is to make the UK a place for potential illegal immigrants to avoid .

That IMHO is what the Rwanda deal was all about, but blown out of the water to coin a phrase by mainly Labour Peers in the Lords and Left Wing Human Right Lawyers, they are earning a fortune paid by the Taxpayers.
