I don't want to see anyone homeless, but I paid for my own home and paid a load of tax whilst doing so. We have a government to sort out the accommodation issue and if they cannot do that, they should resign and let someone take power who can control the borders from invaders. My home is here as a place of safety for my family, I won't compromise that.

The absolutely last thing we need is the shite from the extreme right. What Europe needs is the truth and legal answers to the mess we have got ourselves into. Which could mean legal changes that allows Europe some defense against these unacceptable waves if migration. My father used to have a saying. "When he's said it, he's said nought". There's a few posters on this forum for which that is apt. You are one. How's the stop the boats campaign going now the wind has died down? What would you do with all these people? Are you surprised people on the right (or extreme right as you rather dramatically refer to them) are getting vocal about this issue?

I wonder how many fiddler. hash and wonky will allow into their homes? Britons could be asked to house Afghans as thousands face hotel evictions Ministers are considering launching a “Homes for Afghans” scheme following a similar government-funded plan for Ukrainians. As the government sought to fight off Conservative rebellions over the illegal migration bill, the immigration minister, Robert Jenrick, said it could ask members of the UK public to open their homes to people coming from Afghanistan under official routes. It is understood that Jenrick, Michael Gove, the housing secretary, and the veterans minister, Johnny Mercer, have recently met to discuss how to house thousands of Afghans who are due to be evicted from hotels in August. Theresa May and Iain Duncan Smith are understood to be planning to back Lords amendments to the illegal migration bill to stop the deportation of modern slavery victims. Other MPs are considering rebelling because the government’s amendments have not placed a statutory limit on the detention of children. More than 124,000 people have arrived in the UK under the Homes for Ukraine scheme since Russia’s invasion in February last year. Jenrick’s comments in the Commons followed an intervention from Debbie Abrahams, the Labour MP for Oldham East and Saddleworth, who said: “We have hundreds of civilians who would like to have a Homes for Afghans scheme. These people are waiting and have already volunteered. “This is a scheme ready and is equivalent to the Homes for Ukraine. So I really would urge the government to take us up on this and make sure that these supposed safe routes are actual safe routes.” link

We have a weak centrist government who are frightened of the EU, and belive me we have not left the EU. We need a centre right party who puts us first and who has the balls to stop the illegal invasion by force. None of the wankers in parliament have testicles, they are all centrist/left wing woke liberals who are terrified of offending any aggressive minority. I never thought I'd say this but, we need someone like Thatcher now more than ever. The absolutely last thing we need is the shite from the extreme right. What Europe needs is the truth and legal answers to the mess we have got ourselves into. Which could mean legal changes that allows Europe some defense against these unacceptable waves if migration. Why do shouty woke lefties insist that anyone who doesn't vote Labour must be extreme right wing? And as lefties tend to, I notice you confuse Europe with the EU, one being a six million year old continent, the other an enforced political construct imposed five minutes ago. An easy mistake.

A little caution is needed when lionising Margaret Thatcher's achievements, Red, especially in the area of immigration.
Perhaps you've forgotten that one of the first administrative decisions made by the Thatcher government after taking power was to sanction the transfer of 10,000 Vietnamese boat-people from Hong Kong to the UK.
That apart, your post is on the money.
To be fair Dan, that was more than 40 years ago when the immigration debate was quite different. Who then could have imagined a million immigrants a year entering the UK.

By the same token letting in 10,000 migrants at one fell swoop was a big deal at the time and severely dented Thatcher's credibility since just a few months prior she had warned on Granada TV about the perils of being 'swamped' by large numbers of people of different culture.
It was the largest single influx since the Ugandan Asians were let in by another Tory PM, Edward Heath.

That is why people fought and died to preserve that place of safety. If the government cannot, or even will not, preserve that place of safety then they are not representative of the people. The country is now absolutely sovereign and has the power to enact any legislation to protect that safety it deems necessary with the assent of parliament.

Tax policy could be crafted to 'nudge' this For instance, if you have a 'spare room' and there is a waiting list of Syrians and Afghanis in desperate need, some tax penalty might be added It's only one step further

An illegal migrant from Libya / Syria / Afghanistan / Sudan or Iran who passes over, or crosses France to get to another country is not the responsibility of France. To say that "France should take them back" carries no legal weight, they are not the responsibility of France. But that is precisely what France does at their border with Italy - they turn them back and say they are the responsibility of the Italians. Why is Calais something different? Why is calais something different ? Mainly because the french hate thecenglish more than plaid’s cottage burners do

Leaning to the right wont stop migrants. They dont understand our political context. And in the end, right wing policies will result in aggression, violence and a police state reinforcing government policy. Knocks on the door at night, people hauled away and disappearing, reports to the police that a migrant lives down the road (true or false),, reinforced ghettos and the breakdown of the historical culture we take for granted and identify with.
Climate change will ensure that this will happen. The world has to prepare NOW for the large number of those in the Southern hemisphere and low lying areas move north.
One suggestion might be filling the enormous spaces in the Russian steppes. There should be agreements about which countries have the space to accommodate the migrants. NIMBY will not solve the problem.
