If they were in genuine need of sanctuary they would have applied for asylum in one of the safe countries they came through to get here. Hence they are economic migrants. In fact, to solve the problem, we should refuse to accept them unless they had applied for sanctuary at a British embassy before their arrival on our shores. Generally, asylum seekers are just as safe in most European countries as they are here. They choose to come here for a variety of reasons. One being because we are an easy touch. We should only be accepting a reasonable number of genuine refugees from countries adjacent to war zones as should every other country. I don't see why the UK should have to accept any refugees or asylum seekers. If you want to do something to help you feel good about yourself go for it, but don't drag everyone else into it. You can't stop people claiming asylum, it is their legal right. It is also their legal right to claim it in the country of their choosing. All we can do is assess their claims quickly and allow then to either remain or reject the claim and remove them. Talk of anything else is just complete bollocks. Doing anything else is even worse, as all you are doing is making lawyers even richer. The Albanians are a separate issue. Thanks to the Maybot they have an easy loophole in which they can claim they are the victims of modern-day slavery.

@ colbops, I don't think it's a question of human rights, it's more a question of human decency. Surely if people are in danger we can't all turn our backs on them. Doing that is not democracy, that's savagery. We and every other country should willingly take a fair number of genuine refugees depending on our own needs and ability to help. I'm not saying take everyone and I'm not saying we ourselves should go without, but we, along with other countries, should help.

40,000 Alleged Asylum Seekers have arrived on our beaches this year so far, 1,000 of them in just one day if that is not an invasion I don't know what is, and that is only the ones we know about, how many others arrived in the boots of cars, backs of lorries or forged documents. In one year 40,000 where are we going to house them all? accommodation is already very difficult to find Most of them will go off radar and end up in the criminal world, once they find out they aren't getting this dream of thousands of pounds in benefits, a new house and a car, and reality sets in they are stuck in a hotel or low demand accommodation and the big dream is turning in to a nightmare, they will turn to crime, the only time they will be detected is when they are in custody and we find out they are illegals, and that is the stark reality Would you care to give figures for this racist rant. . And legal immigrants have contributed more to the treasury than they have taken out. And you still have not told me. Of the tens of thousand immigrants who have failed asylum status. Which means they are illegally in the country. Which you have a great problem in understanding. They cannot work or be given benefit. Why are they still here. And who's fault is it. That's the stark reality as you believe the racist fanny you get fed from the likes of Johnston and Farage. With the statement by Enoch Braverman. It is clear the fascist wankers in government have replaced the BNP . And has it reached the grey matter between the lugs. The reason for the upsurge in channel crossing is 100% down to the government. As they closed all routes with its immigration policy. And you can only claim asylum in the UK. If you are standing on UK soil. Or are you still in ignorant denial www.economist.com/graphic-detail/2018/09/26/migrants-contribute-more-to-britain-than-they-take-and-will-carry-on-doing-sowww.theguardian.com/uk-news/2013/nov/05/migration-target-useless-experts

I fail to understand why the government cannot get a grip on the situation
Firstly, I cannot understand why anyone from Albania should seek asylum - there are no major issues facing human rights, the country has legislation outlawing discrimination, including discrimination of LGBT people, and there is no conflict in Albania. The DeFacto decision must be "Return Back To Albania", perhaps with a fast-track screening process.
The really big issue seems to be a massive backlog of applications - and the Number 1 suspicion has got to be a shortage of staff and immigration officers ( as is most often the case under this government since 2011 ).
Or - as with what happened with police officers, David Cameron and Theresa May slashed and cut the Immigration & Border Force staff, and then Boris attempted to replace them again. POlice officer numbers FELL by over 20,000 under Cameron and May, along came Boris and he started recruiting 20,000.
You could hardly make this up - but its true
We do know that under David Cameron that the entire Immigration & Border Force staff was cut by a massive 10%
I am a very stong believer that the UK has to take our fair share of refugees and asylum seekers fleeing war or persecution, but at the same time I accept that at least SOME will be purely economic migrants, simply seeking a better life ( who can blame them ).

I fail to understand why the government cannot get a grip on the situation Who knows. It does seem odd. Tighten up the rules, have a simple assessment process that starts with a very basic assessment to sift out the 99% within moments, then undertake a more detailed assessment of the handful left that might actually have a genuine claim. To me it looks like that for some reason there is a lack of will to get it under control. I can only conclude that there is some external pressure that is causing those in a position to do something to shy away from doing what needs to be done. I wonder what that is?

No one is suggesting rejoining the EU, Thomas, if only because the EU would not have us. If Labour win they will rejoin the EU. Anyone who doesn't understand that is either naive or stupid. And the EU would love to have us back. Of course the terms would be even worse than the ones we had before. They would demand that we join the Euro which would be like another ERM. Wouldn't it be ironic. We fought a war to avoid German domination - only to be taken over by Germany and the ECB because of British politicians who hate this country. It has been made clear Immigrants and Globalists in the Tory Party and most other parties were never interested in securing our borders after the Brexit vote. Swift fast track representation of what we wanted after the VOTE will never happen unless a Party is galvanised around Farage leadership imo … or a Group that can honour what the People voted for … both immigrant and indigenous groups. If the dippy Dappys of this world want to help criminals, terrorists, religious extremists, economic migrants and a v.small number of women and babies (often thrown into the sea to make a propaganda headline the MSM can use to bully the falsehood whites in particular here are ‘uncaring’) … then they need to go abroad and help these people there … in their homelands … to make an ‘honest’ living. Not back Globalist bullying Agendas that made them refugees in the first place. Dappy is part of a distinct minority bullying a forced immigration agenda on a majority that wants secure borders and a fair system of controlled immigration … according to the UK’s needs … not the bad elements, criminals and anarchists Globalists want us to pay for …. If Labour kicks the Tories out … and then tries to force another referendum through MSM and political bullying …in order to force us back into the crooked, corrupt clutches of the EU …. I think they are in great danger of triggering a CIVIL WAR in this Country. America is on the brink of CIVIL WAR too … these people don’t know when to stop. … one spark and it could be bad. What do others think about this bullying threat? … Democracy is truly dead if they get away with this. We people need to stop getting drawn in to fighting each other … and just go for the targets that corrupted our Democracy … and stirred ALL this Western Anarchy and Division up. Deep State, the Media and Globalist/Religious Cartels pushing anarchy. Get rid of them … wars pretty much cease … and the body count stays low … and Power is restored to the People. Simple eh? **************************************** …… Oh dear … have I said something that will force the ‘shutdown’ and CENSORSHIP of this Forum now?🤔 …. Clumsy me! Lol! 😋 …. if it happens … we will just have to ‘up sticks’ AGAIN …and post our devastating TRUTHS on every other space that pops up … until these TOTALITARIAN NAZIES are kicked out of OUR BUILDING. PLANET EARTH.

Sorry to interrupt but has anybody discovered one real tangible benefit from our leaving the EU yet? I keep on asking but no one seems to know of one. I'm only asking because I voted to leave, mainly because I naively thought the negotiations would result in a mutually beneficial deal for all concerned, not schoolboy "Ner.Ner. Ner." arguments. Silly me eh? Unless of course you can think of one real tangible benefit of our leaving?

Unfortunately you fell for the "this will be the easiest deal in history that we can do over a cup of tea" lie.
No,there are no upsides, that is clear. Unfortunately the Tory Party are now stuck with it. Hopefully Sunak can at least improve relations.

Vote leave was fine, expecting the Westminster party to be capable of backing it up wasn't such a good idea.

Do you stay in the corrupt, duplicitous, wasteful EU Mafia that has spread and infected worldwide … or try and salvage some respect and integrity … and break out and try and create a fair trading alliance outside this Mafia? … that bullies and starts wars and defunds all it’s Members … and breaks Country’s border integrity … letting in more bullies and criminals. Remember when we had a Labour Party that had the INTEGRITY to fight those battles?? … represent the interests of The Poor and Dispossessed? Someone has to make a stand against a bunch of Nazis … Churchill did it … and led this Country through dark times … now we have to stand alone and confront largely zionist/deep state fascism. Whose up for it? … join us.
