So why is Australia, Israel and Azerbaijan in it? LOL, I mean, Australia, Israel and Azerbaijan, in the Eurovision song contest lol. Oh man, it's hilarious. Who is the EU minister for propaganda btw... Seems to me that critics of the nationalities of the participants because of the event’s name might just as well deride the organisers of the French Open or US Open for having non-French and non-US competitors…

Colbops has complained that fidler's above post attributes words to him he didn't write. I will leave a few minutes for objections and then I will delete.

My post is here ukpoliticsdebate.boards.net/post/93715Fiddlers is here. ukpoliticsdebate.boards.net/post/93960Clearly, within Fiddlers post, the following element: "Every member state of the European Union is a member of the European Broadcast Union, and the European Union represents most of Europe. More importantly is the fact that the flag of the EU is actually and originally the flag of the Council of Europe, which includes EVERY European state. The flag of the EU is regularly and frequently used as a symbol of freedom, hope and aspiration in oppressive countries, such as Belarus, Russia and also in Ukraine. THe Union Flag represents a fading power" Is fiddler's attempt to reply to my post and he has screwed up, attributing it to me instead.

Eurovision has always been political. This is why the city of Liverpool was chosen to host the event, knowing EU jingoism and EU flag waving would be alive and well. Ho Hum. Liverpool is not only the home of Militant Tendency, but Scousers are left wing chavs who wallow in victimhood. Liverpool was always the obvious choice for Eurovision. Scouser went to the doctor's the other day and found out his new doctor is a young female, drop-dead gorgeous! He was embarrassed but she said, "Don't worry, I'm a professional - I've seen it all before. Just tell me what's wrong and I'll help you in any way I can." Scouser said, "I think me c0ck tastes funny..."

Eurovision Song Contest? For those old enough to remember the above is the musical equivalent of jeux sans frontier aka it’s a knockout washout. Wonder if the scousers will boo the anthem? . Or maybe I was anti EU from childhood? It would be nice to think I was that switched on aged 5. No red. I think it just the natural in born ability of all englishman coming into the world hating europeans. I always thought it strange that a country that is basically made up of a mix of germans , danish , with a french nobility to hate their european brethern so much , but it guess all those wars fighting johnny foreigner over the centuries does that.

Sometimes the writing space below the quote delineator gets deleted and you literally can't type in the correct place. The only resolution is to drop post and reopen or edit it in the code.

No one can change or alter the fact that the Council Of Europe Flag ( the flag of the European Union ) is the ONLY known and officialy recognised flag of the entire continent of Europe excluding Belarus and Russia, but including the United Kingdom. To wave "THE EUROPEAN FLAG" at the Eurovision Song Contest would, to most normal people, seem appropriate. But not to the sour faced Brexit brigade Well do you not have to consider the feelings of others. There are many things we do not do or say and many things we are expected not to do or say so as to not offend or upset others. Why is it not just OK but in fact a bit of enjoyment to upset the 'sour faced Brexit Brigade'? It seems in teh 'upset' stakes they do not count.

Because they are competitions, and to maintain their following they need to attract and select the best and most attractive competitors….

I started watching at 2000 and gritted my teeth and stopped watching at about 2030. Lights flashing all over the place, the two second attention span on each camera shot with angles changing all the time, dancers doing stupid gyratory 'dances'. Heard about 7 songs all with a basic Eurovision song contest formula. An inaudible gabble from a female commentator, a complete lack of any cohesion to the opening sequence and the 'postcard' sequences with little rhyme or reason. Altogether a cacophony of noise and a visual assault with an overall lack of coherence. What a nightmare.

Last time I watched must have been 20 years ago and that would have been as I walked past the telly.

Very enjoyable night. Had to give up on the idea of "take a shot every time someone says how great Liverpool is" because we'd have been risking alcohol poisoning after the first half hour, but the contest was the standard parade of forgettable trash with the occasional nugget of lunacy.
No point at all in either trying to praise the thing or trash it - it's just a bit of daft fun.
And this morning, we're all paying the price, and watching Grant Shapps on Kuenssberg, or the (roundly rejected) offer of Cilbir are doing little to help matters..
