75,000 EU flags to be handed out to Eurovision crowd for final
“Liverpool is an anti-Brexit city, and we want that message to come across", campaigners said.
Tens of thousands of EU flags will be handed out to audience members at this weekend’s Eurovision Song Contest final.
Anti-Brexit group Liverpool for Europe has confirmed they will be dishing out 75,000 EU flags for the event at the M&S Bank Arena, with flags to be distributed widely across the city as fans prepare to party.
Spectators have been full of praise for Liverpool – which saw a huge Remain vote in the EU referendum in 2016 – as they descended on the city for a week’s worth of events.
Flags, sequins and Eurovision-themed costumes were all on show as crowds arrived for the semi-finals.
Urs Odermatt, 57, from Lucerne, Switzerland, and his friends, who all wore red Swiss-themed suits, said Liverpool was “the best” after travelling to many different countries to watch the competition.
Asked what made it so good, he said: “The pubs, the people, the prices, the beers and the weather.
“We’re happy.”
The final is being hosted by Liverpool on behalf of Ukraine and will be shown on the BBC and other TV networks with millions of people in the UK and across the globe expected to tune in for the hugely popular event.
Liverpool for Europe hopes to capitalise on the large audience by replicating the scenes witnessed at the Last Night of the Proms at the Royal Albert Hall in London in 2019, when activists waved EU flags and some donned blue berets.

Let's hope they take the boat people back with them, because clearly they would rather be in the UK than the EU, even they know the EU is a lost cause.

So people attending the final (a largely pan-European event) will be offered a flag, with no obligation at all whether to accept it.
Still, given the bleating from the brexiteers about EU flags appearing at the Last Night of the Proms, I guess it'll wind up the usual crowd.
Like a blue and yellow rag to a bull.

The bleaters are the Remnants. Anyway there maybe a few flags left over, a rail strike has been called that will affect the song contest but won't affect the generally piss-poor quality of the performances.

Eurovision IS a European event, it is not a British event
The EU flag is the ONLY official European flag ... so whats the problem ?
In actual fact the flag is the flag of the European Council, adopted by the European Union, and widely recognised all over the world as representing Europe.
Well done to Eurovision

Well done to Eurovision Great, then there will be no problem when the event is held in another Euro country we will all be able to wave our thousands of Union Jacks around the venue.

If everyone I know who's ever actually attended (not a large sample group, I'll admit) are anything to go by, the only flags you'll see will be rainbow ones. Far prettier, anyway.

LOL ... Anne Widdecombe ... I love her. well i posted the o/p as a bit of light hearted relief away from the problems across the disunited kingdoms. That EU flag sure does wind some people up though.
Back to the serious business though , i see the anti rishi stories are coming thick and fast at the minute....
whats interesting in light of the perceived betrayal of brexit , the worsening state of the uk economy , labour now leading the tories in the polls in terms of trust on every subject bar ukraine , and with a general election looming in the near future , are the knives being sharpened for the tories unelected and previously rejected prime minister?
Im reading nearly 60 tory mps are getting ready to hand in letters of No confidence , with more alleged to be thinking about joining them?

To be honest I'm starting to wonder if the Tories actually want to win the next GE, because all indications are looking that way.
They can't keep swapping and changing Prime Ministers every five minutes, and to think we are going to have Starmer/Labour running the country all because the Tories have handed it to them on a plate, the only opposition in history to win a GE without one single policy to their name, the worst leader and shadow cabinet ever in a Labour opposition, to think they could win by doing absolutely nothing apart from lapping up the Tories self-destruction.

Anne Widdecombe ... I love her. Yes. That business about wanting pregnant women prisoners handcuffed to hospital beds while they gave birth was just SO adorable..
