After years campaigning on here it has become clear to me that no one wants to raise tax. So we must accept a lower standard of living. Everyone that came after the baby boomers have been accepting an ever decreasing standard of living. In no small part that has been exacerbated by those same baby boomers who have at every turn, selfishly ensured they haven't shared the pain. We now have a society of 60+ers living extremely comfortable lives, living in big houses with spare bedrooms, playing with their train sets while the workers of today live in poverty. Time for a dramatic wealth redistribution programme, and if not forthcoming, an intergenerational civil war

It's no good bleating about it: One way or another the dependency culture will have to end. The Biggest welfare expenditure is on the elderly are you suggesting we cut expendeture to the eldley? OOneway cut it is by more immigration you pay more in taxes the the Native British It may be that immigrants on average pay more than the native British (defining that is a problem) but immigrant communities on average pay a lot less.

Unfortunately, social care is our area of biggest expenditure. It therefore makes sense that it should be the area to bear the largest cuts. It's no good bleating about it: One way or another the dependency culture will have to end. Or we could tax people like you more instead to help pay for adequate social care. Whilst we diminish the dependency culture by building a society where those who work can earn enough not to be dependent, whilst those who can't work or are retired are reasonably well looked after. And we can stop feather bedding those wealthier pensioners, whom whilst trousering everything tax payers are forced to throw at them, bleat about everyone else's dependency.

The boomers benefited from raging inflation which saw their wages rise and their mortgages shrink simultaneously. But then they also had to start their lives in times of rationing and real austerity (and not the makey-uppy "Austerity" that we've seen in recent years) so, in aggregate, they probably had it no easier than people today. As for redistribution, well that'll happen anyway: The boomers will be leaving their wealth to others when they die. Besides, taxing success is a shit strategy that destroys aspiration. So rather than trying to steal other's wealth, it would be better to work out how you can generate your own. Dependency culture is not a good look.

The Baby boomer generation raped the nation, their parents, and subsequent generations through their utter selfishness and greed. The things they enjoyed will never come again because they asset stripped the nation and gave nothing back. Time to take back their ill gotten gains and share it around the people they stole it from.

What this thread is starting to demonstrate, rather neatly, is that there are way too many people who think that the world (or rather anyone that they perceive as being richer than them) owes them a living. And they/it just doesn't. Here's a simple illustration which sums it up for you:
HTH.

At sandypine are you on about the immigate community paying less tax because of the high unemployment rate
If you look at the Indian community what is the largest immigrant community in the uk they pay a lot more in taxes then the native British.
And then you can also include the recent immigration from European countries what studys so they pay on average 30% more in tax then the Average British

HTH. What this demonstrates is a total lack of humanity, people who served their country do not deserve to be homeless or have to suffer mental anguish alone through experiences they could not avoid. There are those by birth dealt a rotten hand or others who fall prey to the vagaries of life and in any civilised society they are helped. If you want to live in a dog eat dog society remember if you lose your legs even for a moment you’ll get your throat ripped out.

HTH. Very true. Which begs the question, why did vast swathes of baby boomers feel entitled to a council house so they could support and raise their families on one blue collar wage, and then feel entitled to be gifted those council houses on the cheap, and then not contribute enough to build more, depriving future generations of the same. why did those same boomers feel entitled to free further education via grants, but then when it came time for them to contribute, they decided it was too expensive so introduced loans for those that came after them. Why did they, instead of contributing to the upkeep of public services, did they choose to sell those services off to save themselves a bit of cash while depriving future generations of the same services? How come this sense of no-one owing anyone else anything mainly comes from those that literally took the legacy that the war generations built, milked it for all its worth through some sort of self entitlement, and left those that followed with the consequences. On top of all that how come that same group, thinks it is OK they milk the workers of today to keep them in the lap of luxury, because they aren't willing to use the wealth they built up to pay for their retirements themselves.

Perhaps if the younger generations learned to switch lights off and live in cooler bedrooms, not take a shower every night and morning, watched only two or three TV channels and ignored netflix and sky and did not spend all of their spare time telling everyone else where they are and what they are doing on their phone while dotting about in their Yaris and clubbing as often as possible then their assets would be on a par with baby boomers. Boomers tended to be careful, watched b/w tv until they could afford colour and walked or cycled to work. If one wants everything before one can afford it then the result is as Micawber says.

Why would there be high unemployment rates specifically within certain communities only and why would Indian Communities pay more tax. Surely you are not saying that ethnicity plays a part in how successful one is most especially as you are indicating a non-white group.

Absolutely spot on. You have got the "me, me, me" generation banged to rights, a noble minority being the exception. I am 57 years old myself but can see what the boomer generation has done, and how they have shafted future generations in their own greedy self interest.
