Business Secretary Jacob Rees-Mogg says former Prime Minister Boris Johnson will "clearly" stand to be the next Tory leader, saying there's a "great deal" of support for him. Asked whether he truly had the necessary 100 Conservative MPs supporting him to get his name on the ballot, Rees-Mogg says "the people who are doing the numbers" for Johnson's campaign say he does. www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/uk-politics-63327087 . Rees Mogg is leader of the campaign and yet can't confirm Boris's 100 backers. A non statement which says it all.

Im not sure its wise to dismiss johnson so easily with his track record of campaigning and winning. Many tory politicians seem to be sitting back keeping their powder dry. If i was a betting man , and im not , i would say i think johnson will re emerge as leader.
Cant see how sunak is any less tarnished by the past few years than johnson.

They will swallow any utter fanny hook line and sinker. I wonder who the next imaginary enemy will be.

The Borris supporters on here will be wetting themselves if Borris doesn't get elected Come on sunak you can do it im not a tory or boris supporter , just calling it as i see it. You need a calm head to look at political events rather than blind hatred guiding your views.

If Boris doesn't get 100 votes by tomorrow. Sunak automatically wins the contest and will be Prim Minister by lunchtime.

I wonder if Johnson could be telling lies or getting others to lie for him, leopards and all that.

I watched Steve Baker, (the one that Channel 4 describe as a c***) being interviewed by Sophy Ridge this morning, he put forward the cast iron case against Boris being PM, so I think rather a lot of head scratching will be going on, as a former loyal Tory voter for half a century I have no enthusiasm for any of them, Boris is a nutter, Sunak is a sly Globalist EU loving creepy sort of bloke, and Penny needs to shed a few pounds before she gets my vote.
Richard Tice for me I'm afraid.

On top of that as you hint , the tories will lose the pro brexit vote , starmer will get in , and we know the rest.
buckle down your seat belts folks its going to be a bumpy ride.

There's lots of backroom scheming going on but it doesn't matter what anyone says or claims, until tomorrow at 2pm when all will be revealed. Personally I think Sunak probably has it, but if does go to a members vote I will vote for Boris.

Personally I think Sunak probably has it, but if does go to a members vote I will vote for Boris. im not sure. I think the desperation of those who hate brexit and boris is clouding things , and as you say , lots of backroom deals are being done to keep him under the 100 vote threshold. If he gets 100 backers and it goes to the members for a vote , sunak is toast as we know.
i suppose it depends on the tories self interest and who they think best will help them keep their seats. In that regard , johnson has the edge.
