The NHS and my local surgery have my postal address and landline number, they can easily communicate with me if they so choose. What's the difference between your landline and your mobile number? RR says a mobile is a tracker and might reveal he's been to Lidl and not Waitrose. Even if location is turned off. I'd say if you're waiting for an appointment and a cancellation comes up, a mobile is the most effective way of contacting a patient quickly.

I don't want to be contactable at any time of the day or night twenty four hours a day 365 days of the year. It is 'my' choice who I give my email address and mobile phone number to. Too many agencies and companies these days expect you to immediately hand over personal information without giving it a second thought, and most people do. A quick related story if you have a minute... I was in the Pandora shop in Stafford buying Mrs R a charm for a bracelet, yes I know I spoil that woman however. After making my purchase in cash, the sales assistant asked for my address. I was quite surprised and asked her why she wanted it. She kinda laughed and said oh it's just something 'they' ask for. I wont bore you with the entirety of the exchange, suffice to say she wont ask me for unnecessary personal information again. But the point is, she asked for unnecessary personal information because whether we're talking about address, email, mobile or landline number, people usually give it because they're too embarrassed to ask why?

I have asked on occasions and I normally get the stock response we do it for marketing purposes and sometimes I think that is ok as then I get electronic confirmation if anything goes wrong. Also you can unsubscribe if it becomes an annoyance. The time you will normally need to give more is when a family member becomes ill and is under the NHS..............

The latest mobile smart phones come with an off button, unbelievable I know but that's modern technology for you. I never give my email in shops why would anyone?

ZG, your hand held tracker can be tracked, even when it's switched off. The problem with smartphones is, they're a lot smarter than the people who carry them.

The latest mobile smart phones come with an off button, unbelievable I know but that's modern technology for you. I never give my email in shops why would anyone? Because, like mobile numbers, they ask people for them and people give them. I'd been buying from a builder's merchant for some time and asked for a cash account which they granted. One of the questions was for my phone number, so I asked why they wanted it? "In case there's a problem with delivery or something", they said. So I told them there had been several such incidents when I had always phoned them and that most of the time their office staff never knew there was anything wrong. My doctor doesn't have my mobile, neither does my bank or PayPal and neither does anyone but my wife have it, it's none of their business.

Then leave it at home if you are doing something you don't want the police to know what you're up to. But none of your fears explain why you wont give the NHS your mobile number.

Like me, Red is probably frightened of sex messages from young nurses or receptionists.
