Spot on, and with the benefit of hindsight, and the benefit of remembering, if Labour do win the next GE, the likes of you and me, and others more wiser will know where it will all end, in tears, and with that we will be the ones who can safely say ........"'See. I told you so!". I repeat what i say time and again , from personal experience , every time that party are in power at local national or uk level i and my family are worse off financially. Every single time.
Starmer can scream all day long that labour are fiscally responsible now, but a leopard doesnt change its spots , and they simply cannot be trusted with the finances of the local council never mind holyrood or westmisnter.
Tony blair was the man who lost new labour 4 million voters between 1997 and 2005 , that before see 2 comes along to blame the 2008 financial crash. Only someone as deluded as starmer would think this marks a totem of better times for labour.
As you hinted at earlier , if starmer and the latest new labour continue to erode whats left of their founding values so they can fall into place in power in 18 months , this party really will be in the political abyss for ever more.
I've said on many occasions Labour throw tax payers money around like was confetti, it's free money, that's how they see it. It's apparent right now that nearly every Labour run council in the country is in debt, and I mean big debt, they can't handle finances. The days are gone when they can point the finger of blame at central government, it doesn't wash anymore.
Here's just one example of many ...
Harrow Labour's Wasted Millions
Despite constantly complaining of ‘underfunding’ and 'cuts' by central government, Harrow’s Labour Council has wasted over £84 million of taxpayers’ money.
Harrow Conservatives can reveal that the Labour Council have wasted local peoples’ money on the following aborted or failed projects:
£46.4 million on flawed regeneration projects £3.7 million on aborted IT projects £342,639 on ill-conceived Low Traffic Neighbourhoods and ‘ghost’ Cycle Lanes £300,000 on inflating the Council’s communications and PR department £140,00 on back-office HR and bureaucracy £25 million on Kings House offices (pictured) which remains virtually empty
The Labour Council has also wasted nearly £8 million on other aborted and failed schemes. Harrow needs a Conservative Council which will treat residents’ taxes with respect and invest in frontline services rather than back-office HR, communications, and needless vanity projects.
**Chucking tax payers money around like it was confetti ^^ that's Labour for you.

Magrathea , you arent alone . I too to my eternal shame voted blair and new labour in 1997 , along with millions of others who feel exactly the same as we now do.
Within months of his election much of the media were already turning on him......
1997 was a long time ago and memories of much of that period for me are somewhat ill defined politically. If i had been paying attention at the time I would have seen the massive, co-ordinated media campaign to paint this guy as the harmless. shirt sleeves up 'ordinary bloke' that Britain needed to clear out the cobwebs of our past as the diabolical manipulation it was. He was sold almost solely on style - the understanding, new look manager - and when I say style, I mean in it in its most facile sense. Bair's success, gained simply through careful media image curation, set the ' tone' going forward. We never recovered imho. absolutely. The legacy of that man was horrendous. I like you wished i had paid attention at the time , but i think we were all extremely weary of 17 odd years of a burnt out tory party with crises after crises , that we were fooled into voting for this devil .
Blair is unique in political history that while Thatcher was hated by the left , blair today is hated by both left and right.
He was and remains a charlatan. PR. Spin doctors smoke and mirrors and all the rest is a large part of the political legacy of spin and utter distrust i remember from the blair days that has carried on till today.
Mass immigration housing crises cost of living increases and so on. All can be trailed back to blairs time in power. We have run out of expletives to describe new labours thirteen disasterous years .
The snp and tories have made mistakes , and are of course at fault for many things. So much though of what they do carry the can for are a result of new labours inglorious legacy of multiple ticking time bombs they left behind for others to deal with.
I cant believe anyone with an ounce of sense wants starmer into power to rehash those disasterous new labour years of 97 - 2010 , and the policies that bankrupted the uk over that time.
Blair from what i read was left the best set of balanced books any prime minister had inherited in uk political history , and by the end of new labours time in power , they in turn left a note saying the money was all gone.

was it cameron who said there hasnt been a labour government in history that hasnt bankrupted the uk ? again totally agree with your post.
Their wastefullness and incompetence as we have seen in glasgow , croydon and liverpool not to mention higher levels of government are incredbile.
Its the chicken and egg sceanrio . What comes first.......the labour party or poverty?
Everyplace they get into power , wether individual consituencies , councils or government they grind into the dust.
didnt i read labour councils across the uk in a recent report pay the highest wages to their councillors while presiding over the most wastefullness and incompetence?
