Here s the REAL truth www.youtube.com/watch?v=jXqVGtxFppQWith no mincing of words, this man tells it exactly how it is And no matter how much bleeting and squealing the excusers of this rotten government make, Gary Linekar has the right to personal opinions, and he has the right to air his opinions on social media. No one is denying him his personal opinions, and if he wants to express them then he needs to switch to being a political commentator, but he isn't he's a football commentator who is funded by the licence fee paying public.
For that reason we expect the BBC to remain impartial regarding, politics and religion, the two subjects that are deemed as not etiquette to discuss in any social gathering, least of all for a BBC mouthpiece presenter.
If he feels so strongly about his political views then he has to make a choice politics or sport, but in Linekers case he will ultimately choose money over his principles.

I disagree. The BBC does not own him. Hw should be able to say what he wants to in his private life. No contract or agreemant should restrict his fre3dom of sp3ech outside the work0lace.
As for rhe BBC being left wing, another ancient trope, the chairman is now facilitating the tory pm's loans. Jeremy Clarkson is able to make disgusting misogynist remarks in his private communications about those who oppose Royalty. Fiona Bruce can reinterpret questions to avoid criticising the tories. As for the licence payers, all polls now put support for Labour well ahead of the Tories so the BBC doesnt represent the majority of the country.

Do I agree with what Gary said on Twitter? No. Do I think the BBC is in the wrong? Yes. Unless of course he’s signed a contract saying he’ll avoid political posts on other social media platforms, I can’t see how anyone in their right might would believe what he posted on his personal Twitter account was the view of the BBC. From a piece in the Indy And the full piece

Well with regard to polling it seems that Lineker is out of step with public opinion.

It is no different than civil servants and public sector workers also tax payer funded .. “Politically restricted” civil servants are prohibited from any participation in national political activities. All other civil servants may engage in national political activities with the permission of the department, which may be subject to certain conditions.
The BBC is taxpayer funded, so same applies, it's our money and we expect impartiality, just like we expect it from tax funded Civil/Public sector workers.

I dont expect impartiality in one's PRIVATE LIFE. No institution has the right to restrict what you do in your own time. No institution can control your mind. Lineker doesnt represent the BBC. He represents football.

Post something controversial on social media and see how long you keep your job. All companies have social media policies. Everybody knows he works for the BBC so anything he says is thus associated with the BBC and can harm their reputation. Interestingly, have you noticed how all the media are at pains to identify him as a "contractor" and not an employee. The HMRC disagree with this, and are chasing him for £4.9 million in unpaid taxes lol. These arrogant media types think they above PAYE and paying the same levels of taxation as the rest of us... well the HMRC armed with IR35 is slapping the smug looks off their faces!!

He is freelance and not an employee of the BBC. A large number of presenters etc do the same.
This suppression of privacy is the same as if a company says you cant write to your Aunt Sally and comment on politics. I get that you dont criticise the company but by making such a fuss, that is precisely now what the whole country is doing.

So don't be dim, Kim.

Exactly, his 'job description' and contract stipulates he should be 'impartial', just like any other job description that is breached, including Civil Servants who breach data protection laws, Lineker has got carried away, thinking he owns the BBC .... LOL he's well past his sell-by date, to call him a boring old fart would be a injustice to boring old farts. Does that impartiality apply to the BBC chairman too or is he allowed to keep his position even though he's a Conservative party donor? Does he mouth off at every opportunity in that role or does he do the job mindful that controversy brings the end of the wonderful legally imposed licence fee whether you like their woke drivel or not, and the threat of having to sell their woke drivel to ‘subscribers’ I don’t watch a lot of TV and i find the things i used to value the BBC for now filled with woke shite. If they were forced to find subscribers i suspect a LOT of that would change, and if it did not, i would not care because i would not be paying to watch it. While I’m here, i noted a comment above about him not paying his taxes I think we all know Dawn Primarolo was a dim witted twat pushed into the job of Paymaster General by the fraudulent activity of the Prince of Darkness whose fraudulent mortgage application ended the political career of a man far better at the job In the 1999 Regulatory Impact Assessment of the Welfare Reform Bill that brought in IR35 and its infinitely more poisonous cousin Section 660 that called paying your wife to work for your company a ‘settlement’ on you unless you were an MP, in which case as Freud said, you could pay your wife and fuck your secretary, Primarolo set out three distinct categories of ‘workers’ The last she defined were the members of the gig economy, forced to be ‘self employed’ by unscrupulous bosses who would be able to force workers to define themselves as self employed contractors in order to avoid paying any employment taxes or minimum wages. Funny how the gig economy came about AFTER she made this statement and IR35 has done fuck all for those forced into that route But the first she defined were those rich enough to employ lawyers to fight the legislation. She specifically defined professional footballers as being in that group, paid so highly they could pay people to find ways to put them above the tax law. Linneker is a prick, but he can read. I doubt he would have taken the path he did had Primarolo not stated categorically that he could, and indeed was expected to. Uf any doubt the truth of the above i still have a copy of the poll tax avoiding bitch’s words on the subject i can email them …..

om15 ... "Absolutely, of course he has.
The BBC also have the right to decide not to employ him. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The BBC have no right to sack anyone because they have personal opinions - UNLESS aired on the BBC
Also, if the Tory run BBC do in fact sack Linekar, he will be snapped up by another broadcaster and get more money, and the BBCs reputation will be damaged beyond repair.
But wait ... I guarantee that the Tory boss of the BBC will back down
