Gary Lineker taken off air by BBC as star steps back from Match of the Day BBC have confirmed Gary Lineker will not present Match of the Day this weekend and say his social media posts were a 'breach of our guidelines', but sources close to the presenter claim the decision to 'step back' from the show was not a joint one.
*Please note for purposes of the outraged lefties the link is not from the DM

Gary Linekar HAS NOT been sacked, he is "stepping back" from presenting Match Of The Day ( for now ), by mutual agreement. But I will tell you this ... Gary Linekar wont backdown, because unlike the Tory cowards who are at the top of the BBC, Gary Linekar is a man of principle. Further more, Gary Linekar couldnt give a toss even if the BBC did sack him, because there are almost certainly others, already lining up to snap him up for his talents. Linekar is a remainer and therefore a traitor, as is the BBC (or the Brussels Broadcasting Corporation as it is known), so it does not matter what either of them want.

You are being thick here. As already pointed out he did NOT use the BBC platform for his views. Fairsociety making things up again. 🙄 Not making things up, he used his status and influence and clout as a BBC employee to promote his political views.
Let's face it, if he was just like you ... andrewbrown .. no one would give a flying fuck what your political views, or for that matter, they wouldn't give a fuck full stop what your views were on any topic. The fact of the matter is Lineker tried to use and abuse his position at the BBC to influence his private 'social media' in to believing he was representing the BBC, which we know he wasn't.

He's not 'stepping back' LOL
He's been taken off air.
The arrogant political activist has just lost he FREE mouthpiece platform to promote his preferred political Labour party LOL Lineker did not use his BBC ''mouthpiece'' to criticise government policy. Nor did he use it when he criticised the Labour party. It doesn’t make any difference,if he or any other wishes to criticise the political process when they are high profile figures in the state broadcaster they should read their contract first or step down and then make themselves heard.

Sports personalities are now lining up to support Gary Linekar, including the co-hosts of Match Of The Day, who have said that they wont "fill in" or host the programme.
Any person who works for the BBC is fully and totally entitled to a private life, which includes personal and private opinions, and if such people post their opinions on social media, it has nothing what so ever to do with the BBC.

Good, they can put The Lone Ranger on instead.

I don't agree that football should be politicised either, the likes of Linekar should know better.

It does when their employment contract with the BBC specifies that their social media output should not be political.

Literally censorship. I'm assuming that he read his contract with the BBC before he signed it?

Literally censorship. Being rich and famous shouldn’t dictate your ability to speak should it, despite all the whistleblower supposed safeguards do you know how many ordinary people have to leave or lose their jobs because they speak out. I like Lineker and his football knowledge but if he wants to get in to political posturing he needs to read his contract and abide by it or leave the state broadcaster.

That claim is ridiculous, I'd expect better from yourself.
