Lineker represents a small percentage of viewers, MOTD is only watched by a tiny minority of licence fee payers, why are we pondering to this limited talented presenter who caters only for the minority.
Because the Home Secretary made a fuss of his Tweet.Maybe you should ask why we are talking about Lineker rather than her doomed to failure assault on human rights. Because lineker abused his contract of employement.....And not for the first by all accounts he has even admitted he had got this wrong.....He is a football pundit not a political pundit.

I read a lot of the DM and DE reader comments, most of them said (one in particular tickled me) MOTD was far more watchable without jug ears LOL I have always been a bit pleased about my 'sleek' non-jug ears, but have found in recent years that my long term poor hearing is improved if I "jug" my ears out a bit. It's a funny old world. Do you link them across the face with sellotape or just superglued coloured paper to make you look attractive?

This entire story is brimming full of Hypocrisy
We have on the one hand a sports presenter airing a personal opinion on Twitter about a topical issue
Then on the other hand we have the top boss of what everyone is screaming needs to be an impartial state broadcaster, who was a member of the Tory Party, who stood as a Tory candidate, who donated £400,000 to the Tory Party, and who was appointed to the job by his pal Boris Johnson, whom he helped to get a loan.
AND YOUR SAYING GARY LINEKAR SHOULD BE REPRIMANDED FOR NOT BEEN IMPARTIAL ?
Its a joke

Try to look at it philosophically - you had your run using state power to rub your opponent's noses in it and forcing them to pay for the service, and now you fear someone else is grabbing the power to do the same to you?
A popcorn moment.

or maybe people tuned in because they actually wanted to watch football, and not have to listen to overpaid, overrated, old timers reminiscing back to their old days as mediocre football players. yawwwnnnn

A popcorn moment. The Tories are setting precedents here. When Labour get in at the next election they will be able to replace the Tory plant at the head of the BBC with their own puppet and start censoring right wing opinions and they will point to Lineker as an example. The irony of arguing for impartiality in a move that exposes the BBC as a government mouthpiece is an own goal worthy of any Match of the Day highlights reel.

Indeed.
So Sidfiddler has one thing right: The whole thing is brimming with hypocrisy - the hypocrisy of the "No platforming" left now complaining about one of their own being "No platformed".
Now that's funny.

The BBC has never been impartial, just look at their foreign affaires coverage, its establishment to the core, look at the treatment Corbyn has been subjected to over the years, every war we have been involved in they act as a mouthpiece for the Establishment,i remember a scandal that blew up in the 80s our intelligence services vetted every employee of the BBC,its part of the deep state.

Until the latest appointment, the BBC has been left-wing led for years, even under a Tory government.

Simple, it's because the current government is whipping up a storm of anti-immigrant sentiment in order to distract from talking about their disastrous handling of Brexit, the economy and the cost of living crisis. We are being told that it is patriotic to treat asylum seekers as criminals as a blatant piece of electioneering.
