Why will it be election time? Like him or loathe him Boris has a mandate to be prime minister until Jan 2025. What everyone seems to have forgotten is the Commons Privileges Committee investigation into claims that Johnson misled Parliament over ‘partygate’ allegations. Any proposed sanctions from that investigation depend on the approval of the Conservative Party. So whilst they may accept a mild reprimand I doubt anything more would see the light of day.

I actually think Bojo could win this and because first MP in British history to hold the position of Prime Minister twice! It's said he's expected to get the 100 votes by MPs come Monday. Then he is HUGE favourite with the Tory membership, who never wanted him gone in the first place. Actually BC, Churchill was PM twice. But I agree if Boris pulls this off it will be the most spectacular political comeback in British political history. And so was Stanley Baldwin and Harold Wilson..

Tim Montgomery has just said (BBC R4) that according to "reliable sources" Boris can easily get 100 nominations - and may get close to 140! Wow. If you reckon that Sunak will also get over 100 that may leave Penny Mordaunt struggling. So basically it looks like the two who come through will be SUnak and Boris. And if that goes to Tory members to decide then it's a done deal - Boris wins!
Happy days are here again! Ans a big two fingers to the BBC and the whole Leftie and remainer blob who have been camapaigning non-stop to get rid of Boris and reverse Brexit.
On the other hand neither Boris nor Sunak can "unite" the party - they're both marmite to the MPs. So the usual compromise is to select a bland candidate (like Mordaunt), like when the useless Major was made PM. If Boris wins some MPs are threatening to resign and trigger a by-election, and many MPs absolutely hate Sunak for stabbing Boris in the back and destabilising the whole government.
Interesting times.
