Looks like more evidence that this is not a Tory government, although to be fair net zero was in their manifesto. However, it seemed to be lost in the noise of "Get Brexit done"

A net zero Uk will do as much for global warming as a pacifist UK would do for global warfare . The ban the bomb , unilateral disarmament loonies have merely found another religious sect to follow

You can have Energy Security or you can have Net Zero - you cannot have both.

I'm convinced that these climate catastrophe adherents have no idea how big (its massive) earth is. They also don't have a handle on the fact that our planet really couldn't give two fucks what we do. It's seen worse, and will again given time.

Same as Brexit is not a left right issue, but more people on the right voted leave, and more people on the left believe the climate emergency hoax.

but more people on the right voted leave, I'm not sure that's actually true? I think it was more those on the left.

That's like saying humans will never reach the moon, a comment I heard more than once in my younger years. Indeed we did but it came at a huge cost in terms of both lives and money and the prospects of future space exploration. As the lunar landing project banjaxed the future of space exploration so these idiotic claims of net zero and the banalities of the so called "Climate Scientists" are damaging the "real" sciences involved in the field of planetary energy transference and circulation patterns cause and effect.
Does the government think that the cost of achieving this "net zero" will be gained by just taxing people or granting government titles or merely just making speeches...that seems to be the extent of government and governing at the moment. The usual display of a disappointing lack of vision and vacuous platitudes and gleefully jumping onto the tedious buzzwords bandwagon again. Why? To stimulate the whimsical fantasy's of the middle classes and the management of their expectations perhaps....who knows....but it plays well on twitface I'd bet!
Maybe it was to fill a news cycle?? Or was it just slow policy day that needed filling with something...anything....just feeding the machine? Will Ben Wallace have a new title do you think, Secretary of Defence and World Peace...another grand expectation? I think Ben would have told Sunak to go fuck himself if that had been proposed.....which makes me wonder why Shapps would go along with such banalities...just shows him up as the feckless wanker he is I suppose. I guess if he fails to live up to the somewhat limited expectations of the brief then he'll have that awfull shrill little virtue signalling twat Thunberg to answer to....!!
Meh....the issue is not the Net Zero in itself it's the fact that government allow it to have credence. It becomes a political expectation which intelligent people know is an absolute fantasy but because of the heresy attached to questioning such a position the fantasy gains general acceptance by default.
Next time I'll vote green then at least I'll know the people I'm voting for are total idiots instead of idiots in suits masquerading as politicians
I got half way through your post before I realised it was a load single minded nonsense. Net Zero must be the aim of any sensible government, whether or not they reach their aim isn't the point, traveling in that direction is. And that direction is being taken by countries all around the world, right now. Net Zero might be a fantasy for some at the moment, but given human innovation and determination, I would expect it to become a reality in time, why not?
