Looks like more evidence that this is not a Tory government, although to be fair net zero was in their manifesto. However, it seemed to be lost in the noise of "Get Brexit done" The environment is not a left/right issue. Only the hard right see it as such. ?
You really thought that post out didn't you monte?

In the words of the late Baroness, ''there is no alternative''. If we don't prioritize the environment everything goes to shit. There is no planet B. Governments both left and right know this.

Feel free to highlight the current technology which will allow this. Feel free to name the date when technology and innovation will end. So thats a no then...

So the first idea from this new bunch of idiots is yet another green tax on energy bills - this time to fund hydrogen production.
This Net Zero nonsense is going to bankrupt the country.

You can have Energy Security or you can have Net Zero - you cannot have both. That's like saying humans will never reach the moon, a comment I heard more than once in my younger years. They are kind of inverse in a way "Will never reach the moon" is pessimism about our ability to progress "Will never reach Net Zero" is casting doubt on our willingness to sabotage ourselves to total destruction However, looking at our present reality disconnected, glassy eyed political class , i think they appear perfectly happy to sabotage civilisation to any degree and for quite a low payment.

And a no from you. Two can play your silly games. Well the only people being silly are those like you who wish to jump off the cliff in the hope that by the time you reach the ground someone will have invented an anti-gravity device. Total lunacy

So? If I walk down the street dropping large amounts of litter does that make it OK for you to drop smaller amounts?

It means that nothing that we do will make any meaningful difference and that bankrupting ourselves while pretending otherwise is lunacy.

So? If I walk down the street dropping large amounts of litter does that make it OK for you to drop smaller amounts? So, the UK is the 4th greenest country on the planet so what we do now is not actually going to make an iota of difference.

The analogy isn't good If dropping smaller amounts of litter on the street might form the difference between us eating and not eating, or being over-powered by another in the chaos, then yes.

I got half way through your post before I realised it was a load single minded nonsense. Net Zero must be the aim of any sensible government, whether or not they reach their aim isn't the point, traveling in that direction is. And that direction is being taken by countries all around the world, right now. Net Zero might be a fantasy for some at the moment, but given human innovation and determination, I would expect it to become a reality in time, why not? I assume you like your information packaged in neat little bundles....a soundbite person rather then a reader?
Okay, look I'm sorry if it my earlier post was a tad long but in reality its just a really short precis of a very long process...it isn't controversial if that's what you mean by nonsense? If you mean the spelling then...yeah...mea culpa sorry.
Sensible government...well...there's a thought! What I would like to understand is why people that don't understand just how flawed this concept of "net zero" is are so happy for (sensible) governments to go stampeding ahead to spend...what...untold trillions of pounds/dollars of their money on ameliorating a "problem" that science can't define and can't properly measure? Why is the political cart so far in front of the science? The issue is not climate change...climate changes all the time it gets hotter and colder and storms get bigger and smaller...its all about geological timescales and perspective. This net zero is a recent invention I guess because most of the other rallying cries of the climate apocalists have been sidelined...the only positive feedback loop within the climate debate is the sociological one. Do you know where and by whom the "net zero" was coined and why?
Net zero....human innovation....just think about those 2 soundbites for a moment and tell me how they are not diametrically opposed concepts based on the resources required for one to achieve the other. I assume you've now disconnected your mains power, sold your car and stopped buying your food from supermarkets? Small things like that...no just joking....if you're worried about the future and multi-level environmental cascade collaspe then don't....you'll be fine.
Can you explain why net zero is a flawed concept? And why human innovation is diametrically opposed to achieving it. Net zero is just what the planet had for thousands of years on human habitation. It only means that we create a situation where the amount of Co2 we produce is no greater than the planet can use up. Sounds perfectly doable to me. Cut the burning of fossil fuels, plant more trees, etc etc. And I must admit I have never heard human innovation described as a sound bite before. All those sound bites. Antibiotics, MRI scanners, combustion engines even the wheel. All soundbites. lol
