Well if you ban cars then you have to ban aircraft as they burn fossil fuels. I personally don't think they will ban cars, just make it difficult and more expensive and possibly more city areas closed to traffic. Exactly.

No area has high pollution from cars. None at all? Oxford city centre has air quality comparable to the Scottish highlands ? You said cars. Cars have been subject to multiple decades of ever tightening emmissions regs. I doubt that cars, well at least modern petrol ones, contribute much in the way of pollution at all.
If they did, they wouldn't be allowed to be sold.

Tbh I don’t have figures for pollutants coming from cars alone but I suspect it’s not zero and there is ( as he moves the goalposts over a bit) noise pollution. City centres would be better without the presence of cars ( as the wheels on the goalposts squeak)😁

Feck off - you're not having that. The sound of a V8 reverberating through the city is pure music. Sheesh, the snowflakes of today.

Costs imposed by the government. You don't get around it like this - the political targeting of a useful technology, to make it useless, is certainly a restriction of rights Well that means my right to drive a 4litre car is being restricted by the government by car tax and fuel tax. Who’d of thought that the government would try to control something by imposing extra costs ? Nothing new here . The difference is in the targeting of a technology in order to make it unviable and thereby force it to be abandoned. My point being that this is of suitable gravity for people to get to vote on it - they typically get to vote on mere tax changes that are simply designed to raise revenue rather than inflict social damage. I don't think you can get around this with this level of fluff - a democracy is not compatible with the government knocking out an entire pillar of our way of life, without consulting the public.

Who’d of thought that the government would try to control something by imposing extra costs ? Nothing new here . The difference is in the targeting of a technology in order to make it unviable and thereby force it to be abandoned. Ie a calculated act of wide-scale economic and social vandalism, rather than an attempt to collect revenues. Which is exactly what the government has done to me . It has forced me to abandon my 2.5 litre car to use a 1.2 litre car via a 2 litre car . Do you not think this is part of a government conspiracy to reduce our ability to travel with the aim of eventually keeping the uk population in small boxes with only Xboxes and censored YouTube videos to amuse us ? Imo you are way way overthinking this .

They are already telling you that you cannot have certain types of car new after 2030, the electric cars are, and will be, controlled by price. You are actively being denied the use of fossil fuel cars which no doubt will eventually become illegal Yes fossil fuelled cars are being banned due to the global consensus that they contribute to global warming and an alternative is being offered . They are banning hy-brids at the same time as petrol and diesel. Yet another failed experiment.

This is several orders of magnitude from forcing into disuse an entire tier of technology that is a key basis of our way of life. Do you not think this is part of a government conspiracy to reduce our ability to travel with the aim of eventually keeping the uk population in small boxes with only Xboxes and censored YouTube videos to amuse us ? Imo you are way way overthinking this . I think the aim is a helpless population that is dependant on government discretion. This sort of initiative helps condition people to expect to have to ask permission or to wonder if they have it. It is training people on how to live in a totalitarian tip.

What is the downside of 15 minute neighbourhoods? The UP side is the desire to have everything you ‘need’ within 15 to 20 minutes WALK The DOWN side is the enforcement of zero vehicle use, zero travel … Go Read Brave New World, ignore the tawdry sex references and focus instead on the fact a ‘savage’ had access to educational material denied not just to betas and deltas, but also to alphas The section of the book where the savage born to the girl left abandoned on the savage reservation, converses as an equal in terms of their access to certain literature with His Fordship the grand poobah should explain exactly the down side of these cages banning the serfs from seeing the world beyond their ghetto

Private jets contribute far more per capita but private jets are not being phased out, Chinese power stations and poorly controlled coal seam fires contribute much more in a few years than were ever produced by the UK but the plants are being phased in and the coal seams carry on burning. It is only demanded of the Western nations to make sacrifices and that sacrifice is restricted to the general public alone. Well ok but the answer is to have a socialist society but that doesn’t work does it? I agree that a China pumps out more CO2 than us . I agree that we seem to be taking on more of our share of the Zero carbon burden. All of this has been recycled more than a few dozen times . So your gripe is that you didn’t vote for it . We’ll join the club , there’s a lot of stuff that’s happened that a lot of people didn’t vote for . So what’s the solution? Find a government that will allow new fossil fuel cars to be sold until China learns the error of its ways? Good luck with that ? Get yourself all unnecessary about what may or may not be the consequences of 20 minute neighbourhoods ? Well it’s an option. Consider the positive side of an inevitable consequence regarding the reduction of car ownership? That's another option too. No, a Socialist society just makes it easier to impose restrictions on the populace as it will be in the name , and the welfare, of the people. Creating 20 minute neighbourhoods is obviously a laudable aim. It is how they are to be operated that is the issue as to be effective people have to use them and if they do not willingly use them they will not operate effectively, so in order for them to work there will have to be nudging, coercing and forcing. Choice will be restricted much more than it is now. There are many positive sides for all of the rest of you not to have cars whilst I still do, the thing is that is not in my power to enact, neither should it be in anyone else's power to enact, And that, is the problem.

Speculation about zero vehicle use , no evidence whatsoever about zero travel. “The council plans to cut car use and traffic congestion by placing strict rules on car journeys.”. Reducing vehicle use . Still no mention of zero travel ie bus / train, What Bus ? What Train ? The Council here are literally wanking in expectation of bringing this in. They routinely spout bullshit that nobody needs a car with their bus services which they regularly make free for a month Well they used to say that. They stopped saying it after i enlisted the help of an independent councillor to expose them for the lying shitheads they are Because the fact is i have a curmudgeonly old sods concessionary bus pass. If buses were really the answer i would sell my car because i can use buses free 24/7/365 The problem is of course there are no fucking buses. No bus runs from town to this part of newport after five fifteen pm and has not for ten years. When i had to have an eye examination that required administration of chemicals that meant i could not drive, i gad to walk to the clinic that had been set up in the rugby stadium here. It took me an hour and a half and they had to get a paramedic to look at me on arrival because my lungs gsve out and i hit the deck. I was most grateful for the assistance of our independent councillors group in publicly exposing the utter bullshit spouted by the labour autophobes. And as i said the twat has been kept muzzled since.

If very few people owned cars in mine and surrounding villages there would be enough passengers for a regular service .
