RAF diversity drive 'discriminated against 160 white men' The RAF has been accused of discriminating against 160 white men in its effort to meet “aspirational diversity targets”. Tobias Ellwood, chairman of the defence select committee, told MPs that the RAF’s former head of recruitment had identified the cases before she resigned in protest. After the revelation, Air Chief Marshal Sir Mike Wigston, head of the force, was asked if he had presided over a “lack of integrity at the top of the RAF”. It comes as the Armed Forces struggle to retain female personnel amid a sex harassment crisis engulfing the military. Its been happening for quite a few years now right across many workplaces Positive Discrimination to fill quotas , regular Diversity Training, etc what I cannot figure out is " What the feck is Unconscious Racism and bias" ? who thought that one up " Gypsy Rose Lea " and her Crystal ball, or some fake mind reader ?

Unconscious racism is racist assumptions so deeply ingrained that you take them for granted without even thinking about them, thus being racist without being consciously aware of it. But you oldies around here, who laughed at such comedies as Love Thy Neighbour and Mind Your Language, who laughed at Bernard Manning, and who saw the black and white minstrels as good family viewing, wouldn't even get the concept of unconscious racism because you are steeped in it. |

What's happening now, is a situation of being so desperate to not discriminate against blacks / Asians or other ethnic minorities, that people from here are being discriminated against instead.
All racism is racism, including racism against whites.
Equality.
Best person for the job, no matter their colour / gender / sexuality.

When I completed my apprenticeship in the RAF I was posted to an operational station, the ladies of the Women's Royal Air Force had been introduced to that station at about the same time.
The gentlemen's lavatory in the NAAFI had a large sign. " WAAFS and sneezes spread diseases", I thought that this was quite amusing at the time, as an apprentice I was told by a Flight Sergeant that WAAFs eat their young. The RAF has always had a robust and healthy attitude to foreigners and the fair sex, but like everything things change.

Unconscious racism is just another phrase to use so that a whole swathe of people can be swept aside from having opinions and excluded from consideration of their views. Strangely this whole swathe is comprised almost entirely of white people. |
