Thats nothing. I spent a week once on the scottish thread one morning reading vinny and oms posts.... I hope your absorbed their wisdom. i do try bentley , but while talking about poetry over on the scottish threads , bear in mind oms first exposure to poetry was as a radio op who spent his days in the warm comfort of a landrover saying mock calling orson , over and over , while thinking himself special.
Im always willing to expand my mind , but it can be a hard gig in here sometimes.

Well I am a pensioner but ditto to the rest of your post. I can guarantee I have worked harder than srb ever thinks he could. I remeber back in the early seventies when someone accusaed me of earning loads of money as a builder citing Β£2 an hour as extortionate. I told him he wouldn't even be out in the cold and wet, let alone working tor that sort of money; no hoists, just monkeying up a 40 foot pole ladder with a half hundredweight of bricks on your shoulder. The arrogance of that statement screams out. How can you possibly "guarantee" that you have worked harder than I ever have without access to my work history? I too have worked in the construction industry, which at times included 15 or 16 hours days when there was a rush job on, and even the occasional all nighter when we worked for more than 20 hours. And I would go months without a day off. And I have also worked for a grounds maintenance company that mandated 70 hour weeks from April to October. Those were the days before the working time directive. So you can shove your arrogant guarantees up your arse. The only one screaming is you and you're screaming about your diddly squat jobs.

My claim stands. Bollocks. And you are not working very hard now are you? Just another scrounging pensioner out for all you can get paid for by working people like me, whilst you at the same time begrudge us anything at all, always labouring under the delusion that you had it so much harder and life is easy for working people today. Again, bollocks. Not working now? When I have sat down for half an hour I will be going down my workshop to tidy up a very nice violin. I will also work on a ladies worktable before cleaning the car. Every man should have a hobby, not sit on a forum for hours being bitter about his elders and betters.

The money for such work was still very good back in those days but you had to work hard for it. I doubt you would have lasted five minutes. The only hardworking thing about you is your gob. Pity your brain doesn't work quite so hard Why would I want to steal your crown?.........And there you go again........You haven't got a fucking clue how hard I work when I am on site.....Just your usual self loathing bullshit which amuses us all......No wonder you have that frigging avatar you would be right at home in the third reich.

Arrogant old git assuming you are anyone's betters. And you find plenty of time to be around here. And if you have to cite cleaning the car as work then that's risible.

You, Toreador, and Bentley.....a motley crew indeed. You all remind me of the last of the summer wine with you being compo. Sadly I had no time for such comedy here at all yesterday and no more time now since I have to go and work for a living and pay my taxes to support your freebies, so you can moan about scroungers in idle comfort.

You remind me of the character Tony Hancock played on his comedy series. A loser and loner trying to hide it by being a puffed up blow hard. You are funnier though.

I also think working pensioners should pay the same taxes as the rest of us, eg not be exempt from NI. But what I really object to is the attitude of those mostly right wing pensioners who think they should get ever more, no matter how well off some of them already are whilst labelling the working population scroungers who should be denied all support, the same workers who are paying for them. Different rules for them and and the ones paying for them. The very self-interested sense of entitlement they decry in anyone else. As recipients of taxpayer funded largesse, they should be a little bit more grateful to the working people who are paying for it and a little less mean-spirited towards them. A bit of humility and gratitude in return for what they get, and respect for those who work and pay their taxes would be nice. But too many of them truly do live up to the label of the me, me, me generation. And it is an ugly thing to behold

Many, like me, could claim additional benefits but don't. And how much do you think people like me paid for a private pension and how hard we worked for it, how we parted with hard earned money to pay SERPS contributions to bolster our pensions. You come over as someone with several very large chips on your shoulder.

Not me mate, I was trade group 1. That is one of the reasons that I have such a lavish pension income each month.

Some of them worked well after retirement age, and none of them think they should get 'ever more' or label the working population as 'scroungers'. The only people in this country who have a sense of entitlement are illegals, people who know their way around the benefit system, and inexperienced young people who think their rights are more important than anyone else's, sadly this attitude is encouraged by left wing politicians who chase children's votes. In your above typically ignorant rant you fail to recognise the fact that the very people you rubbish have spent a lifetime working, paying tax and NI and generally contributing to this country, some of whom went down the pit aged 16, or served their country in the armed forces. Compare that to entitled young people these days who wouldn't know a hard time if they tripped over it and regardless of ability they demand a university education because left wing politicians keep telling them, it's their right.

The FFR Landrover was OK in the summer, but in the teeth of a howling gale on Soltau training area you couldn't beat a 432, complete with BV. (Boiling vessel, kettle) It may have been minus 10 outside, but in that 432 it was well toasty. In fact, if you have a moment, an anecdote from Soltau training area: Scouse and I were quietly chatting when we suddenly heard knocking on the back door (Of the 432) I opened the door a few inches and peered into the bitterly cold night, the ground was illuminated slightly by a covering of snow. Standing there was a young lad, a runner, who had been sent with a message. He looked absolutely frozen. I told him to climb in and quickly closed the door. He looked at our mugs of steaming tea, there's a lot of regimental rivalry but we felt sorry for this young lad who was from the the Duke of Edinburgh's Royal Regiment, known as the Derrs lol, they didn't like that name. Anyhoo, I made him a mug of tea with a generous tot of whisky, his reaction was priceless. He cupped the mug in both hands and held it close breathing in the aroma and warmth. He took a sip and closed his eyes as he savoured it, me & Scouse almost said, Ahhhhhh. After ten minutes he thanked us as I opened the back door and we wished him well as he disappeared into a dark and very cold night. Scouse then said, serves him fuckin right for joining the infantry, I nodded sagely, lol.

You come over as someone with several very large chips on your shoulder. Who is criticising anyone for paying into a pension? Not me. What I am critical of is the more mean-spirited and selfish elements amongst pensioners - invariably right wingers - who think they deserve ever more from hardworking taxpayers because of their past efforts, whilst begrudging anyone else anything at all. It is not pensioners I have a problem with as such. It is the mean spirited selfishness of many of the right wing ones that I despise. The attitude, the sense of entitlement combined with meanness towards everyone else. Including towards those whose taxes are funding part of their retirement income.
