A 7kw charges at about 30 miles per hour I do not know the ins and outs of charging capacities I can only give examples from this neck of the woods. A few years back a friend of mine who has a carpentry workshop wanted to have a 3 phase supply run to his works shop which has a single phase supply was quoted £11k by SWEB....He is in a rural area half way between Kingswear and Brixham so he now just soldiers on with the less powerfull machines he can run on single phase supply. I can believe that. Anything you want the utilities to provide costs a bloody fortune. But a 7kw charger can run off single phase and will charge an average EV overnight.

A 7kw charges at about 30 miles per hour Does it need a very long cable for that?

You need to go into Wickes and get a couple of those big reel extension cords to put in your boot - you could maybe add another fifty foot to your range. It may be the difference between being stranded on the motorway and getting home safe and sound

I had 55 of their extension leads linked up to get to work and they all broke. Now they're saying I misused them.

Yes - you can wind the cable from the far side to force any excess charge along the wire into the car. This will, of course, mean you will have to walk back to your house

Get up at 0300 to start a shift at 0700 no wonder these EV's pilots look all washed out..

If EV's were better then the market would ensure that they replaced ICE cars and therefore cut CO2 emissions - but we all know that people will not willingly buy them so they need to be coerced by legislation. There is no coercion at the moment, yet still they buy them. 267,000 in 2022 and growing. You can still buy a gas guzzler if you want one. Well that is nonsense - companies are phasing out ICE cars ahead of the ban in 2030. They are being banned - so companies are starting to stop selling them - but there is no coercion....hmmm..

As a purchaser there is no coercion. You can buy a gas guzzler right up to 2030, and beyond if you buy old stock.

Nonsense. There is massive coercion. Car manufacturers are effectively being fined for selling customers the cars they would prefer. New Ic cars are going to be banned which means manufacturers are forced to switch focus.
If you don't feel these measures are designed to force people to buy EV's (ect) rather than ICE, can you explain what they are for?

Ice cars are still miles cheaper than electric, but people (not you) understand the need to stop polluting And repeat. Already answered this several times. The legislation to outlaw ICE cars was not to force people to buy electric ones, but to cut Co2 emissions in the future.

Rubbish. What are these fines? The government levies a tax on car companies based on the ratio of Ice VS (say) EV cars that they sell that are operational. This means a car company creates an ongoing tax liability with every ICE car they sell rather an an EV Ice cars are still miles cheaper than electric, but people (not you) understand the need to stop polluting In which case, there is no need to use coercion - everyone understands they are the better option (according to you). So why the coercion? As Pac says, the coercion is 'needed' because EVs are a significant (drastic) downgrade from ICE and (as you acknowledge) more expensive The legislation to outlaw ICE cars was not to force people to buy electric ones, but to cut Co2 emissions in the future. Please don't be obtuse

Plugin hybrids are good and now having owned a modern one I would ask the government to reconsider them. I bought mine because I couldn't get the electric I wanted at that time. But I find I am getting 168mpg because 80% of my journeys use no petrol at all. But the ones on Duracell's also run forever.
