3. Thatcher introduced the Grant Maintained school system which saw the majority of state schools reduced to a poverty level. NL scrapped that system and heavily invested in State Education.
4. She reduced the value of Teacher's pay causing a high level of early retirement of experienced Teachers. NL set financial enticements to try to get them back, plus investments into Teacher training.
5. Thatcher undermined the NHS causing huge waiting lists and waiting times for hospital appointments and ditto for painful relief but non-urgent operations. NL sent people into the Private Sector and some to France for these operations, paid for by the NHS, in order to bring the numbers down to manageable levels. Plus they invested in the training of new doctors and nurses to meet the shortages of both. (And there are more of such examples).
6. No government can tell investors where to invest their money. During the period under NL, money was more productive for investors to invest in the financial sector. The turn away from investing in the UK industry came when Thatcher did so much damage to the engineering industry and settled for building Japanese cars which she invited into the UK. The Japanese had their eye on access to the EU markets which they did not previously have. |

Who do you think has had the most baleful long term negative impact upon the UK, its economy, its social structure and its society? Many have contributed towards us being the basket case that we are, but my vote goes to Thatcher who started the rot in so many ways. Blair by three fields and a dyke. Thatcher purely lives in the heads of Labourites rent free. If she did anything wrong, why hasn't any PM reversed it, they've had nearly 32 years to do so. So simply put, Labourites need to let go about Thatcher and move on. Blair with his illegal Iraq war, and PFI in the NHS. He simply mortgaged our children's future with the new hospitals. So the NHS is saddled with paying millions upon millions to rent the new hospitals, with ridiculous crap food contracts that they can't get out of. Then if you look at the manufacturing figures, manufacturing eroded to greater extent and quicker under his watch than anyone else. The UK went from being a well known engineering country to a one that's promotes wet flannels in film and media. Manufacturing declined 5% under Thatcher, 8% under Blair. Staunch Labourites promote Labour as the party for the people, how foolish can they be!! We're a nation where many are stupid enough to champion the junk from China and wanting to be part of the EU dictatorship for their goods instead of getting ourselves to the forefront of design and manufacturing. I agree complete psychopath who spawns them. |
