More than 200,000 people sign petition demanding another General Election is called after Labour 'U-turns'.... A petition calling for a general election has exceeded the amount needed for a response from the government and needed to be considered for a debate in in parliament. The online petition has surpassed 200,000 signatures, at the time of publication, after being widely shared on social media since being created on Wednesday. It smashed through the 100,000 mark today which is the amount needed for it to be considered for a debate in parliament. A petition needs 10,000 signatures for a government response. Set up by Michael Westwood, the petition reads: 'I would like there to be another General Election. 'I believe the current Labour Government have gone back on the promises they laid out in the lead up to the last election.' The government website reads: 'Petitions which reach 100,000 signatures are almost always debated. 'But we may decide not to put a petition forward for debate if the issue has already been debated recently or there’s a debate scheduled for the near future. If that’s the case, we’ll tell you how you can find out more about parliamentary debates on the issue raised by your petition. 'MPs might consider your petition for a debate before it reaches 100,000 signatures.'......... www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-14118933/petition-demanding-General-Election-Labour.html

I seem to remember vociferously objecting to my role within the "People's Vote" campaign, saying that you should accept the outcome of the vote. Have you changed your mind? I'll swap a rerun on the referendum for a rerun of the general election with you.

I won't sign that pointless petition. We'll have to put up with the government that 33% of the electorate voted for, it's only fair.

So you're point is what andrea.

At the end of the day it's the people who speak, like they did with the EU referendum, and once the general public decide they aren't going to acknowledge Starmer/Labour as the Prime Minister/Government they then become lame ducks, Labour MPs then have to make their own minds up and call for a vote of no confidence in Starmer ... the more they drag it out the worse it will get for them.

Decisions are made by those who turn up and whichever party gets the most votes. Disgruntled supporters failing to turn out, or vote for reform knew very well in advance the consequences of them doing so, and equally, are well within their rights to have decided to do as they did. Maybe long term it may institute change within the Tories, or even see a shift towards reform, but this was always going to be the outcome of this election cycle. Regardless, the Labour Party is less than 6 months into their government, there isn’t a cat in hells chance there is going to be another election anytime soon.

It won't change anything, but if a significant percentage of the electorate sign the petition then it may demonstrate to Starmer and his front bench that they are not universally approved of or admired. Added to the WFA, farmers, slumping economy, rise in unemployment, rise in inflation and out of control immigration a debate about their failures in Parliament may make them think twice before they do something else that is stupid. At least this keeps them in the spotlight. You can sign here petition.parliament.uk/petitions/700143
