Does a lower cap make everyone’s bill cheaper or just set a level that it can’t go beyond ? I know there is a cap on motor tax until next year put in place by the tories. You can bet your bottom dollar that will rise after the cap date expires..

Does a lower cap make everyone’s bill cheaper or just set a level that it can’t go beyond ? I am not clear on this, my bill is 10% more per unit than this time last year, I think my standing charge has gone up as well. I have no idea how the cap affects me as I use less than 4000 units per year.

Energy bills jumped 10% for millions of customers last month - but experts are divided over what could happen to gas and electricity prices next year. On 1 October, the Ofgem energy price cap rose sharply after big increases to wholesale prices. The effects of this will be even more pronounced for pensioners who are losing their Winter Fuel Payment this year. The price cap applies to around 27 million households who are on a variable energy tariff....

My energy bill has increased by £300. It's not just the prices of gas and leccy that has increased, like Sandy has just stated standing charges have risen also,,

Does a lower cap make everyone’s bill cheaper or just set a level that it can’t go beyond ? It doesn't affect those in fixed deals.

You appeared to be "implying" that your life had somehow miraculously improved under the four months of this new labour government , which was why I jumped in . No. I plain didn't. I said: 1. I'm better off than I was this time last year. 2. I've had no payrise. 3. My gas and electric are cheaper than they were last year. 4. The main reason that I am better off is that I paid off my mortgage earlier this year. Quite obviously not to do with either government. If you read the original post I made, I was addressing OM's inability to understand that someone's life can improve outside decisions of the government. My "which of the government's should I thank" was clearly facetious, as obviously the answer is neither. Quite why you've now claimed I said that my life is better under Labour is a total mystery. My take home pay is still the same. Fuel duty is frozen. Alcohol duty in pubs is slightly down, gas and electric slightly up. Quite frankly I'm no better or worse of than I was during the summer, and didn't claim otherwise.

No. I plain didn't. in my opinion you clearly did. while lecturing om 15 about factors outside of government control ,when he spoke about thatchers government , the bit I had a problem with was when you posted this... clearly implying you are better off under the labour government now than the tory government last Christmas. You are talking out your backside , and clutching at fucking straws.

No doubt I will be told its my fault , and im not understanding your posts.

you are beginning to sound like the new slippery Steve off montes forum. Only at weekends. great. so since its a Friday , can you admit we were much better off in energy terms under the tory gov at westmsinter from start 23 to July 24 , where our energy costs overall fell by a third , and since labour came to power , those costs have marginally increased ?Despite labour promising to lower our bills by £300 ? Thats before we even talk about the further 400 000 households pushed into fuel poverty under labour , or freezing pensioners to death taking away their WFA?

No doubt I will be told its my fault , and im not understanding your posts. Correct - you are not understanding my posts. My gas and electric are cheaper than they were last year. My gas and electric are more expensive than they were in the summer. Both are true and I have stated correctly.

Both are true and I have stated correctly. im glad we are getting to the bottom of these little contradictions . you will forgive me though when you constantly move the goalposts. First the comparison was being better or worse off than last Christmas. then it was vaguely a comparison with "last year". Then it was a comparison with the summer "this year"
