UNCLOS. (United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea) Any government can physically stop illegals entering their territorial waters, international law allows it. Sect 4 Article 33... The coastal State [In this case the UK] may exercise the control necessary to: (a) prevent infringement of its customs or immigration regulations within its territory or territorial sea; (b) punish infringement of the above laws and regulations committed within its territory or territorial sea. www.un.org/depts/los/convention_agreements/texts/unclos/unclos_e.pdfIt's the international law of the sea. I accept the government don't shout about it because to implement international law would upset the EU which is why we need a government that puts the UK and British people first. Wouldn't that make a refreshing change. Royal Navy vets don't seem to think this applies www.navylookout.com/why-its-not-the-royal-navys-job-to-stop-migrant-boats/ Even the Royal Navy vets seem to say they are not permitted

It worked in Australia aganst the vietnamese boat people... Australia's "Operation Sovereign Borders" policy, implemented in 2013, was designed to stop the arrival of boat people, including Vietnamese refugees, by intercepting migrant boats and returning them to their country of origin: Policy The policy was a military-led response to people smuggling and border protection. It combined resources from multiple government bodies under the command of a three-star general. Turnbacks The policy included the reintroduction of "turnbacks" at sea, where boats were prevented from reaching shore and the passengers and crew were returned to their country of departure. Indeed, a classic example of how to deal with illegals entering sovereign territorial waters. No one can say it doesn't work, The Aussies proved it can work. They ended up being sued and having to payout millions www.npr.org/sections/thetwo-way/2017/06/14/532919441/australia-reaches-53-million-settlement-with-refugee-detainees

Starmer means well and is trying the best he can Ditto Lab and liberals in general Bullshit. He is chucking christ knows how many billions at vanity projects and the illegals he needs to vote for him. He doesn't give a fuck a out British military veterans At least he's increasing spending on military veterans, that's something I've seen no proof he doesn't care about vets, he laid a wreath at least the other day

For that you'd need to elect Reform UK most probably, that's not on the cards for a while, they probably won't win in 5 years either The Rwanda plan didn't deport many people IIRC, it was tried Borgr0, in normal circs I would agree that it's most unlikely that Reform UK would be a threat to the government. But after five years of this government I have every expectation that the vast majority of people in this once great country will be screaming out for change. They've tried the Tories, they've tried Labour and look at the situation we're in now let alone in five years time. I think Reform UK are in a very good position.

Yeah that was interesting Farage is saying he was told he was excluded because you had to have six MPs as a minimum to take part, yet as he points out an Irish party leader had the same number of elected members. Something stinks here

Whoever wrote the article agrees with your assessment of the RNs role/responsibilities, but the dozens of comments below the line indicate that actual vets - as opposed to hand-wringing liberal journos - think otherwise.

Starmer is a socialist human rights lawyer, he is not a prime minister. The man is an inexperienced idealistic buffoon. The only deterrent was Rwanda, he scrapped it and in doing so wrote off £24 million, and the Irish government said Rwanda was a deterrent. They said illegals were crossing the border from Northern Ireland into the EU because they didn't want to be sent to Rwanda. That's called a deterrent. Thanks to Starmer that deterrent no longer exists, hence record numbers of refugees crossing the channel from war torn France. Starmer is incompetent. The Rwanda plan only deported few migrants IIRC. And wasn't it blocked by being party to the ECHR and the 1998 HRA? www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-68093940One would have to stop association with the ECHR for the plan to have been legal in the first place Bullshit. The FACT is that the THREAT of it caused the IRISH REPUBLIC to claim the rubber boat riding scum were legging it into EIRE fearing capture and ejection to Rwanda if they remained in the UK. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-68920391Our problem is we give these invaders too much help and support and money. We need to be as nasty to them as where they fled from. That way they'll stay in France

Maybe true, but their polling at the moment indicates they won't win in 5 years, so give it 10 at best I'd say Wasn't that Scott Morrisons's govt who introduced it?

At least he's increasing spending on military veterans, that's something I've seen no proof he doesn't care about vets, he laid a wreath at least the other dayBut didn't allow Farage too. That's because you need at least 6 MPs in your party to be eligible, the Green Party leader also was not allowed to lay a wreath They allowed the DUP to lay one because a representative from each of the 4 nations gets to lay a wreath; Michelle O'Neill of Sinn Fein laid a wreath in Belfast, therefore the DUP were eligible to lay one in London instead and did so. If SF had laid one in London, DUP would not have been allowed to as they have too few MPs They all thought they were doing the best they could, it's sad when veterans die just like they always have in world wars and other regional wars From my understanding the latest troop deployment was in Mali, where they were pulled from recently Didn't they u-turn on that? I thought they lost the vote on that in the Commons? I haven't followed it since then, standard for most govts to moderate their policies and u-turn (Aussie Boats) True, but it closed as it was ruled illegitimate so it couldn't continue

Yeah that was interesting Farage is saying he was told he was excluded because you had to have six MPs as a minimum to take part, yet as he points out an Irish party leader had the same number of elected members. Something stinks here It's me (that stinks) DUP were allowed to attend the wreath laying as a representative from each of the four nations are allowed to attend. It's usually the biggest party but SF were laying a wreath in Belfast instead, so the DUP stepped in and were allowed to do so in SF's stead, as they reject the legitimacy of the Westminster parliament and don't attend London www.gbnews.com/politics/remembrance-sunday-nigel-farage-cenotaph-wreathYou then wrote: It was about to be ruled illegitimate by the ECHR anyway. How long would it have continued for? One has to leave the ECHR in order for it to be continuable (is that a word?)

Indeed, and a lot of veterans also oppose the idea in the comments and are battling each other from what I read I often used to read arrse.co.uk just for the laughs and the interesting commentary, they're surprisingly a large mix of all different political factions, it shouldn't really be a surprise I guess. They are well intentioned whatever political faction they come from My wife is ex US Army
