The economy is clipping along nicely, with inflation tamed without a recession, which is a quite rare accomplishment. The Fed dropped interest rates half a percentage point in September and are going to drop them again. When Trump slaps tariffs on imports, everything will cost more and inflation will rise again. When millions of immigrants are deported, small businesses will have to close and farmers will struggle. When the Affordable Care Act is repealed, millions will be left with no health care. The MAGA people will have no right to complain about any of what is coming at them.

If anyone thinks they won't struggle under Trump, they're mistaken. Last year, America imported $448 Billion worth of goods from China, all of which are going to increase in price when Trump enacts trade tariffs on all imports. He has said "we are going to tariff the hell out of China". He said he will levy tariffs of 60% to 100% on incoming Chinese goods. That $448 Billion worth of Chinese goods will cost consumers between $716 - $896 Billion as a result.

They'll only be able to sell it if they can produce it for less than Chinese imports cost with tariffs.
Unlikely without automation which needs huge investment and doesn't create many jobs.

I thought that was the point , to make Chinese products more expensive so that the US can compete.
Tough in the short term but probably better in the long term .
A product produced by automation in the US will have more added value for the US than a product built in China .
The West exported its production base to Asia from about 50 years ago ..as you say it’s bitten us in the arse now.

 I'm all in favour of reviving American manufacturing, but that is an ambitious, gigantic commitment best undertaken while imports are affordable. These tariffs would handicap the revival of manufacturing industries, which would require importing a lot of materials.
