Wealth taxes have not worked in every other country that has tried them - why do you think the UK would do better? Organised tax raids on billionaires will result in less billionaires setting up shop in the UK, which will result in less work and less tax payers. Lefties don't think about it this way, they just feel things. However, their feelies are severely warped, as seen by the fact that Labour are appeasing the unions and every Labour MP are in effect voting for democide. The UK is on track to becoming a third world socialist shithole and the demographics will match.
This is otherwise known as "Trickle Down Economics" and has well and truly been proven to be a load of nonsense. Labour are not appeasing the unions, Labour have rightly decided that the ordinary public sector workers of this country at long last deserve a fair and reasonable pay rise after 14 years of pay freezes and below inflation pay rises resulting in workers been worse off. Why do Tory apologists think it fine to freeze the pay of nurses and junior doctors, but then protest loudly when the tax payer stops subsidising the electricity bills of pensioners ?, especially when you consider that pensioners are the only ones in society who have had pay rise after pay rise keeping them in line with inflation. The section of society who are the least well off ARE NOT PENSIONERS, it is hard working ordinary people with families on low and modest incomes, its time THEY were given help and just reward. |

Yes they are, and they're also going to be responsible for a lot of deaths thanks to their intentional policy which will lead to deaths. Your first point makes no sense. "Trickle down economics" doesn't exist. The term was invented by critics of capitalism. So basically all your point shows is that you have fallen for misinformation (ie believing that trickle down is an economic model). If you want to say capitalism doesn't work, well good luck with that too, because it has dragged 95% of the world out of extreme poverty. Please provide an example of a better model. Winter fuel payments were brought in by Labour because 10,000 pensioners a year were freezing to death. By Labour's own figures, removing it will kill 4,000 pensioners, and plunge two million of them into fuel poverty. People don't have a problem with means testing as long as it is fair. However, setting it so low that it kills 4,000 and leaves two million shivering through the winter is a disgrace. If you think that is ok then there is something wrong with you. You are also wrong on poverty levels. Women are the largest victims of poverty, so by your logic we should tax men more than women: Single with children 43% (90% women). Single female pensioner 26% Single working age female without children 25% Single working-age male without children 24% Couple with children 23% << the "hard working family" Labour are so keen to appeal to. Pensior couple 14% Working-age couple without children 13%. |

Of course I do, yes. Do you realise that the top 1% of the UK own over 70% of total UK wealth? In reality, the top 1% are being over-taxed if we are only looking at Income Tax (but only looking at Income-Tax would be spectacularly stupid). It is more important, IMO, to tax static-wealth though, precisely because it is static and does nothing for the overall economy. I'd like to see the Personal Allowance at £20,800 (that is NMW x 35 x 52). A single Flat Tax rate on all earned Income (not dividends etc) over that, so that we are all being taxed equally. Then look at taxing all the static wealth that does not contribute to the economy, especially including secondary and subsequent homes. We could be treating everyone equally on earned-income, and still increase overall tax revenues. All The Best - why do you think the UK would do better? Well that is just plain wrong. Spain, Norway and Switzerland levy wealth taxes on all assets; all three score higher than the UK on OECD "quality if life" rankings. France, Italy, Belgium and the Netherlands all levy wealth taxes on SOME assets; all of those score higher on OECD "quality of life" rankings. Over the past two years pensioners ( unlike public sector employees ) have kept pace with inflation, with pensions increasing by nearly £2000.00 per year, and another £400.00+ coming next year. The maximum Winter Fuel Allowance is £300.00, something introduced by a Labour government and OPPOSED BY THE TORIES at the time. The Winter Fuel Allowance was introduced as a Universal Benefit during much better times under a Labour government when the economy was in good shape ( unlike now ), and when growth was good ( unlike now ). Our NHS is a priority, as are other public services, with public satisfaction of our NHS at an all time low ( unlike the all time high in 2010 ). When 100,000 infants wait more than 6 hours in our A&E departments, and when children cannot get urgent mental health appointments, it tells you that the way our country has been run is - SICKENING. Thousands of people have died because of long A&E waiting times, NHS waiting lists, ambulance response times and long queues to even see a GP. It would be great to keep the Winter Fuel Payments, it would be great if we could give all pensioners a free food hamper at Christmas, or a free holiday in Summer, but no one needs public services more than pensioners, especially the NHS, and as UK debt soars, some things are a priority, and other things have to go. |

Indeed, a study reported in the New York Times concluded that with over 50 years of data from dozens of Western economies there was not one single shred of evidence that "trickle down economics" worked. Rather - but completely unsurprisingly to anyone who had bothered looking deeper than Neo-Liberal Capitalist led Government soundbites - all the evidence showed that taxing the super-rich less made the super-rich even richer and everyone else significantly poorer. There was one slight anomaly, the Reagan years, but closer analysis of the data showed that it was increased Government spending specifically targeted at alleviating poverty that made the poor marginally better off, rather than any of the core principles of "trickle down". But we all know why that money is sent, so they can use it to buy stuff from UK PLC and make it look like UK PLC is actually doing a goof job. Buying our stuff, with our own money by proxy, is not indicative that UK PLC is actually doing a good job, in fact it is indicative of the opposite. All The Best |
