Ian Blackford is to stand down as the SNP's leader at Westminster. In a statement, the Ross, Skye and Lochaber MP he would not be standing for the leader's job at the parliamentary party's AGM next week, and that had accepted a new position "at the centre of the SNP’s independence campaign, leading on business engagement." It follows on from a botched leadership challenge by Aberdeen South MP Stephen Flynn and rumours of unhappiness from his backbenchers over his performance in the chamber and his handling of the Patrick Grady affair. In his statement, Mr Blackford said: "After more than five years in the role, now is the right time for fresh leadership at Westminster as we head towards a general election and the next steps in winning Scotland’s independence. www.heraldscotland.com/politics/23162444.ian-blackford-stand-snps-westminster-leader/I won't miss his squeaky whiney voice that's for sure.

The rabid frothing masses in Holyrood feel that he has "gone native", he is not shrill or unpleasant enough to be their leader, the SNP will no doubt elect someone with massive character flaws who is always incandescent with rage over not very much.
Roll on separation.

He's been a poor performer compared to his predecessor (Angus Robertson). He won't be missed

A great pity. His comedy turns on the floor of the House will be sadly missed. Especially when he does them in a skirt.

SHOULDN'T THIS BE IN THE SNP FORUM Why? Has Blackford got nothing to do with Scottish politics?

Why? Has Blackford got nothing to do with Scottish politics? It is an internal SNP matter! As far as I'm concerned, it's Jockense politics which is why I put it in the Jockense politics forum. I do concede however that as far as I'm concerned, it's an utterly unimportant issue to me. In fact, I'm struggling to think of an issue that is less important.

I must admit I don't watch PMQs very often these days but I caught it this week and have to say I thought he was the best of the three leaders. Not much of challenge to be fair but he was the least weaselly of the bunch.
Sunnak got the best laugh though when he suggested Brexit had returned control of our borders to the UK. That one went down well with both sides of the aisle.

When Starmer has finished asking his usually pointless questions, I tend to switch off because in all honesty I'm not even vaguely interested in anything that fat jock squeaky voiced windbag has to say.

Starmer just plays the same point scoring games as any experienced politician these days. Practised and polished beforehand in front of a bunch of image consultants armed with think tank reports and public consultation polls. Sunnak is exactly the same, more fake than Katie Price's tits. At least with Blackford I got the sense he actually believed the things he was saying whether I agree with him or not (not mostly). But like I say, I don't watch it very often these days and he could easily be just as phoney as the others for all I know.

This sums it up quite nicely,
Scottish Conservative Chairman Craig Hoy MSP, said: "Ian Blackford has jumped before he was pushed. His resignation is a total humiliation for Nicola Sturgeon.
"She shamefully stood by her Westminster leader earlier this year despite his appalling handling of the complaints made against Patrick Grady.
"This showed a total lack of judgement by Nicola Sturgeon. Ian Blackford should have been sacked immediately for his disgraceful behaviour but he was allowed to stay in post for several months and now gets to dictate the terms on which he leaves.
"It is clear that unlike Nicola Sturgeon, SNP MPs were not prepared to forgive how Ian Blackford put the needs of the perpetrator above the victim who had bravely come forward in this case. Whoever is elected the next leader of the SNP at Westminster must ensure that never happens again.
"The SNP Westminster group are clearly in a state of disarray and Nicola Sturgeon is rapidly losing her grip over her party."

I seem to remember a few people who were good at the despatch box, William Hague was often entertaining, as was Geoffrey Cox, Cameron wasn't bad and Peter Bone had his moments from the back benches. Offhand I cant think of an entertaining Labour speaker, Dennis Skinner was always good value, not from the despatch box of course.
