We need much smaller government , they could start my announcing an annual 15% cut in government spending and really sorting out the unproductive and lazy public sector largely WFH (many apparently WFB -working from the beach) ) on their gold plated pensions funded by the private sector taxpayer who had their own pension destroyed by the idiot Gordon Brown of selling off the gold at bargain basement prices . Any ''London' weightings paid should be summarily cancelled if they are WFH A 15% cut each year in government spending would see the end of many public services including the NHS . I doubt that anyone in the private health sector would even consider doing what most doctors and nurses do in the public sector, they would refuse. My wife and thousands like her, start their weekend on-call at 5pm Friday ( the precise time they finish their normal shift ), and the on-call finishes at 9am Monday ( the precise time their normal shift begins ). It does not matter how many hours an on-call doctor works when they ought to be asleep, it does not matter if they get no sleep at all, they are not compensated with any extra rest time, an on-call doctor can work all weekend including through the night, and is still expected to be ready for duty on Monday morning at 9am .... little wonder that thousands of NHS doctors and nurses are trying to bet into the CUSHY PRIVATE SECTOR. People don't just get ill between 9 and 5, fiddles. And doctors getting paid 3 or 4 times the national average wage are being more than amply compensated for any on call work, assuming that they actually turn out for any which mostly they don't. Lazy doctors need a good shake up across the board IMHO.

She promised not to raise VAT, NI or Income Tax. As long as she keeps to her word. And various people challenged her on that and she insisted dhe would not. Snd i say she was bullshitting And as long as she keeps to her word of not raising IT, NI or VAT, I'm happy with what she's promised. If she breaks that pledge, I'll be happy to call her out on it. In fact I'll be front of the queue.

You haven't a clue No such thing as "lazy doctors" Doctors OF COURSE get paid a lot more than the average wage, because they are firstly clever enough to be doctors, and take up to nine years to train to be where they are. Do scientists get paid more than the average person, do civil engineers and other highly trained and skilled people. ? Doctors who do not turn out to call outs would be in deeply serious trouble, so I know your are typing bullshit. The way it works is like this ... health professionals are in very short supply - but the ones that are left after 14 years of Tory rule expect to be treated and paid FAIRLY. The alternative is that the NHS continues on its downward deterioration, more people leave, and one day we have no functioning NHS any more. No government can hold a gun to the heads of doctors, they simply leave, go to Australia, America or New Zealand, or go into the private sector, which many many thousands have done in the last 10 years. The Tories forgot that there is no queue of doctors waiting to work in the NHS

Why do we have so many foreign doctors ? Because we limit the number that we train. That doesn’t explain why foreign doctors want to work here . Did you read the post I replied to “…….Tories forgot that there is no queue of doctors waiting to work in the NHS”. Do you think that we kidnap them?

The Tories forgot that there is no queue of doctors waiting to work in the NHS They can hardly wait to get qualified and to go part time Almost two-thirds of trainee GPs plan to work part-time just a year after they qualify because being a family doctor is so stressful, research shows. Their intention to work two-and-a-half or three days a week threatens to exacerbate the NHS’s already acute shortage of GPs and make it even harder for patients to get an appointment. The King’s Fund study found that 63% of trainee GPs in England plan to work no more than six four-hour “sessions” a week one year after qualifying.
A Royal College of Physicians workforce census in 2018 showed that 23% of consultants worked less than full time (LTFT), with 41% of female consultant physicians working LTFT and 11% of males.www.theguardian.com/society/2022/sep/18/two-thirds-of-trainee-gps-in-england-plan-to-work-part-time-study-finds#:~:text=Almost%20two%2Dthirds%20of%20trainee,is%20so%20stressful%2C%20research%20shows.

Doctors are rare and exotic creatures in the surgeries I go to. It’s mostly nurses and RCAs . One nurse dragged a doctor out of her surgery to see me a couple of years ago . I haven’t seen one since except in passing and that’s rare . Pre COVID there was always a reception full of sniffing and aching patients. Now they are half empty. Either they are not seeing as many patients or the claim that the NHS is overwhelmed is false .

It was mid afternoon and the waiting room was empty. Then three doctors came in, laughing and joking and clearly back from a pub lunch. But call for an appointment and you get told there's no one available for 2 weeks. Lazy, lazy fuckers.

Nothing to explain, you all know what a desparate and utterly deplorable situation all our public services are now in. Prisons overflowing - NHS mental health services in a state of near colapse - a £20 Billion hole in funding for ESSENTIAL public services. Its now Pay Back time, after 14 years of Tory missmanagement of both the economy and our public services. During the election campaign it was made crystal clear that repairing our public services was on the agenda, and the Labour Party DID NOT CLAIM THAT THERE WOULD BE NO TAX RISES. Points 1 and 2 are of course correct, prisons are indeed overflowing, and I agree the NHS is in a state of collapse and needs reform, massive reform. Points 3 and 4 are incorrect. The Tories have not been in power for 14 years, from 2010 to 2015 we had a Tory/Lib coalition. As for point 4, prior to the election Reeves repeatedly ruled out raising the rates of almost all main taxes, on this point I will hold my council until September. Even to a lefty, the reason prisons are full must surely be obvious. Over the past two decades the population has increased by 7 million (That's the official fig, who knows what the unofficial fig might be) and net migration is running at 780,000 a year. That's the fastest rate of population growth in our history, so why do some people appear to be surprised that the prison population has gone up? Perhaps deporting 14,000 foreign criminals would ease prison overcrowding?
