They are talking about nearly 300 000 Scottish pensioners being badly affected by the winter fuel payment cut. Although this is due to be devolved to Holyrood , swinney has said no mention has been made by labour of supplying the funding from the Scottish taxpayers money London takes.

In effect , once again , its devolve responsibility , rather than devolve any real power.

I think Dave means punishing tory pensioners will appeal to labours core vote , but I also get what you are saying .Does seem to be a bit of an own goal for starmer in light of the high energy bills , which in my own case , is still double what it was per month compared to three years ago , have fallen from three times as much per month.

if we have a bad winter this year , there is the estimation that ending the fuel payments will push nigh on three hundred thousand Scottish pensioners into severe deprivation and hardship , and probably millions in England and Wales , there's going to be plenty red meat for the media to attack labour despite the bleats about other benefits being available to pensioners.

I always liken uk devolution to running a business with one hand tied behind your back , but someone else controlling all your money no matter how well you do , and giving you a few crumbs back from your profits while you take full responsibility for how the business does.

I'm not really quite sure what you were looking for the PM to achieve in one month in office, but there are plans for housebuilding (whether it works or not is to be seen) and an offer to junior doctors to end the strike. I agree there's also a cut in the investment in roads and hospitals, so it's swings and roundabouts here.
