Let's take Biden. He's had 6 jabs and he's now having Covid for at least the third time. Safe and effective. Pfftt If that's the case, Biden is conformation it... d o e s n o t w o r k .... the pharmaceutical industry has made its ..... Trillions.

No one has ever made a corona virus vaccine that works. Some viruses just seem very hard to make effective vaccines for, while others you just need one jab and you're protected for life. I'm not sure why this is - maybe something to do with the rate of mutation of the virus.

I still think it's weird that the enquiry doesn't include examining the origins of Covid in its remit. If the enquiry is to try to prevent - or at least plan for - a new pandemic, surely knowing how it occurred in the first place is very important.
Baroness Hallett has said that the origins of viruses that are dangerous to humans is usually "zoonotic" - meaning that they come from a host animal and somehow jump to humans and mutate. This may be historically true but nowadays there are laboratories that are experimenting on viruses to examine their potential for mutation. The Covid 19 virus was derived from a bat in China which was modified to include a "furin cleavage" spike which allows it to fasten onto human lung tissue. I think this type of experimentation is banned but is known to be occurring in China and some other countries.
So shouldn't there be an investigation into who is engaged in this type of research and controls put in place on biosecurity - and some research (like gain of function) should be banned if it isn't already. Also there are various dangerous viruses that crop up every now and then - like ebola - that are known to exist in a wild animal host but we don't know which animal is involved. Maybe research should be put into finding out
This would be a far more productive line of enquiry than KCs and civil servants going through abusive whatsapp messages from politicians - no matter how amusing they are for the audience.

If responsibility starts at the top. Maybe borris Johnson should HANG. One of the most eye-catching conclusions of this report is that the UK was prepared for the “wrong” pandemic when Covid hit. But what exactly does that mean? Much of the work carried out before 2020 was designed to deal with the “significant risk” of a new form of pandemic influenza. Today’s report says that approach was “inadequate for a global pandemic of the kind that struck”. Those influenza plans focused on dealing with the fallout from the disease rather than trying to stop it in its tracks. They relied on being able to quickly tweak existing vaccines to work against a new strain of pandemic flu, and to roll out medications, including anti-viral drugs, to those most in need. Both of those approaches would not work nearly as well against a new form of coronavirus. It also meant that measures put in place in some other countries, such as strict border controls and contract tracing to eliminate early outbreaks, were not really considered in the UK’s plans. Covid was not a natural disease though. It was a human-engineered bioweapon.

You want to hang Boris for not preparing for a pandemic? The virus had escaped the Chinese lab before he was even in power lol. Obviously we need to know if people made decisions in bad faith, and if they did they should face charges. The problem is, we did no worse that similar countries. I cannot imagine many countries were truly "prepared". Who could justify the stockpiling of resources "just in case" when so many countries were still in massive debt after the financial crisis? The real villain of the Covid pandemic is China. We can debate if the virus was natural or man made, but one thing is for sure, China covered up the outbreak, which allowed it to spread across the globe. Wuhan was not the first covid detection. It was detected ~6m before.

I saw a phrase in a report which asked the question, "Can it be shown there was a life shortening virus around at the time?" (March/April 2020)
We all know that the average age of deaths attributed to Covid was around 82, which was the same as deaths not attributed to Covid. Did the enquiry consider this matter?

Apparently not. The data is clearly highly skewed, more so considering that at one point pretty much every death was being recorded as covid related.

There are many pieces of equipment that are needed in any pandemic, this was recognised and stocks were kept that were in the system long before Covid. In February 2019 Johnson was made aware by his own people, that the stocks were out of date and useless, and needed to be replaced. He did nothing, and that led to many unnecessary deaths in 2020. Why don't you read the interim report and try to understand the written words used before spouting your standard lefty opinion of it's all Mrs Ts/Boris/Major/Tories fault posts?Your posts wouldn't look quite so stupid if you did soThe interim report has stated so far: The government prepared for the wrong flu
SFA to do with use by dates etc Your opening two lines are quite stupid and contextually untrue. My basic approach is 'credit where it is due' and 'criticism where it is due' (I always accept fair criticism, how about you?) The title of the thread is. "Failure at the highest level during Covid". It doesn't start and end with an 'Interim Report'. My post was in line with the thread Title.

That does not mean what you think it means... the value of the emergency stockpile “does not relate to the volume of its contents”,

PPE was unbelievably, woefully short. Especially at first . Had their been enough PPE and the staff were trained to use it properly vulnerable patients in institutions wouid been protected far more than they were . Outside of that it’s hard to say .

Yes it was! My wife and I spent many hours at the hospital making face masks for surgeons, using A4 overhead projector acetates, foam pads, staples and elastic. We made hundreds and they were used.

Surely stock keeping is an in house NHS issue? Globally countries were all vying for extra stocks of PPE

The need for PPE ( in the case of a pandemic) was beyond just the NHS.
