I suppose we shouldn't be surprised after the amnesty that Labour gave IRA terrorists, but it didn't take long for them to sell out British veterans.

The power is going to Starmer's head, someone needs to reel him in.

Unionism in Northern Ireland is dying out – just look at the fall of the house of Paisley www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/article/2024/jul/08/unionism-northern-ireland-fall-of-house-of-paisley?utm_term=Autofeed&CMP=twt_gu&utm_medium&utm_source=Twitter#Echobox=1720435314 Read it if you want , but to summarise ,its the facts and figures , along with de souzas opinion , on the fall of unionism , and the creeping surge of nationalism and unity in Northern Ireland. The interesting part of all this will be how starmer deals with the elephant in the room. Is he going to attempt to kick a border poll into the long grass , or will he cave ? Another of the many elephants in the room for starmer to deal with. with no mandate , and lack of decent support , which way does he turn on the many fronts. ?

Treason and Labour go hand in hand, so I can't say that I'm surprised. platitudes aside , wether you like it or not ,this is an issue starmer will have to deal with as uk prime minister. This could be a cracker though , for those of us who hate labour. If the silly fucker offers Sinn Fein a border poll ,and they win , labour will never be forgiven for losing a part of the uk. So it could be a win win for us that are stuck dealing with the labour scum. I doubt it though. Starmer won't want to rock the boat , so I guess he will piss off , or try and buy off Sinn Fein in some way to avoid a border poll. As we know , labour dont like democracy and referendums. Only when it suits and they are assured of a hands down cast iron win . Tricky road though for starmer to go down , and as we know , new labours last foray in the 6 counties didnt go well when they let republican prisoners on the run off the hook. So anything is possible , but I doubt a cautious man like starmer will do anything stupid. more picture opportunities and empty slogans im betting.

I somehow doubt it is anything like as sophisticated, there is public money on offer.

I doubt that he would have a border poll without the agreement of Dublin and they dont want reunification at the moment. Until the south decide they want to take on the burden of the North I cant see anyone being asked anything.

I doubt that he would have a border poll without the agreement of Dublin and they dont want reunification at the moment. Until the south decide they want to take on the burden of the North I cant see anyone being asked anything. ive read , presumably like you , various articles over recent months regarding the predicted cost , and what voters in the republic think of it. The general consensus is many favour it, but dont want the cost. However ,events are progressing , and ive also seen polls over a long period of time showing we Scots , you English , and the welsh also dont want the financial liability of the basket case of Northern Ireland. Ive posted some of them previous. I think it looks like the general opinion is can kicking , and hope the uk trundles on like a half dead zombie . I personally can't see it though. Events next year , if Sinn Fein were to do well , might scupper things as they stand and force the issue.sinn fein currently sit in the republic on its lowest level of support apparently since 2020 , but still on course to have the biggest share of the vote. like I said , its all photo ops , and empty slogans , but that will not last forever. I see starmer as the puppet put in place to manage the ever increasing decline of the uk , on all fronts , and maintain some dignity for the establishment as It becomes more and more irrelevant . it's interesting though how he deals with this hot potato. I dont think yet again anyone is happy with the status quo , of the 6 counties being a bit part member of the uk and EU.

Alleged killers ,but in saying 'including British veterans' are we saying ALL killers from all sides will have the amnesty removed ? Because if we are there will be a fucking long queue before we get to private Jones .

inn Féin has said it “very much” welcomes Labour’s commitment to repeal the Legacy Act that protects British veterans from prosecution after Sir Keir Starmer visited Northern Ireland.
The Prime Minister pledged to ditch the effective amnesty for Troubles-era killers, including British veterans, before his landslide general election victory.
Sir Keir held talks with the leaders of Northern Ireland’s major parties in Stormont in Belfast on Monday morning, during which they questioned him over the legislation and funding for public services in the region.
The Legacy Act halted any new criminal trials and inquiries into Troubles-era crimes and replaced it with an independent commission from May 1. It was pushed through into law by the Conservatives despite opposition from all the major Northern Irish parties, including the DUP and Sinn Féin, and the Republic of Ireland
