It’s already pretty ‘fixed’ isn’t it
Are there no blacks and asians they can fast track
Why not make St Stephen of Lawrence’s mum Home Secretary ? After all there is plenty of precedent for making Lords and Ladies do some actual work for their £300 a day. Rishi gave Cameron one such job.

More community police . Local coppers who you know by name ‘ on the beat’. They would£ be the first line of communication . Although that might be impossible or too dangerous for some inner city areas .

Where we went wrong under the Tories
Firstly, we had Cameron followed by May .. both of whom indulged in cutting the police numbers by 20,000
Then, and astonishingly, came along Boris who then set about recruiting 20,000 police officers, this seems almost unbelievable, but its true.
THE PROBLEM ... As Police Federation reps will tell you, is that many professional, experienced and knowledgeable officer have gone in Camerons purge. Our police forces are now less professional, generally younger and less experienced.
The Tories have done the damage - as with everything else

How can we fix it? We can't it's fucked.
To be fair, it's not the police that need fixing. It's the surrounding services underperforming and leaving the police to pick up the slack.
But of course it's easier for politicians to blame "Lazy/Racist/insert here" police than admit to the multiple failings elsewhere.
Perhaps as a start the police should be given full industrial rights and an actual union. That might help to stop them being used as a political football.
The rest should follow from there.
But that'll never happen and so it'll stay fucked.

It's her solution that is so staggeringly stupid that I posted it to show you all just what kind are running it. Lea Anderson is a brilliant questioner though. They are simple questions, but impossible for her to answer.

She set the tone that the rest followed.
Indeed, the police themselves held a protest against "Jackboot" Smith.
So wrong again, fiddles.

At the time of The Guardian article in your link, UK inflation was 3%, therefore an offer of a 2.5% pay rise was reasonable, especially when you consider the huge Real Terms cut in pay which police officers have endured over the last 14 years, which began with Pay Freezes. We are not specifically debating police pay, but more police effectiveness, which would be affected by such things as actual police numbers.

Jackboot set in motion a train of events that the others happily allowed to continue.
Jackboot tore up the pay deal and that directly lead to a diminution of pay and conditions over the following decade, which resulted in an increase in natural wastage and a loss of valuable experience.
Yep, the Tories are also culpable. But Labour started it.

Say it isn't true - Saint Tony (PBUH) cannot have done a thing wrong. It's unthinkable..

Say it isn't true - Saint Tony (PBUH) cannot have done a thing wrong. It's unthinkable.. It's amazing how many people still think that Labour/Tory makes any real difference.
I've worked in the public sector for 30 years, I've seen four terms of Tory government and will now be working for my fourth Labour government.
When Blair took over in 1997 there was almost zero change for the first 5 years - they carried on with pretty much every Tory policy verbatim.
Same with the coalition government: They simply carried on with most of New Labour's policies.
They all complain in oppostition and then do the exact same thing once in power.
The Tories fucked the police but they used Labour's plan to do so.

The system already imprisons very few offenders. Most are never detected in the first place. Some forces have close to 0% detections for burglaries, whilst shoplifting is now ignored in many cases. The problem is lack of prison space. Yes, let low grade prisoners out early, but no murderers - keep them longer. Build more prisons and expand the existing ones. It is money we have to spend to keep people off the streets who would otherwise be killing, maiming or robbing us. This is necessary for a safe society.
