Indeed. However my point was that not many shoplifters end up in Crown Court.

Indeed. However my point was that not many shoplifters end up in Crown Court. As its an offence that is triable both ways, the accused can choose if they want to be tried at the Magistrates Court or the Crown Court, likewise the Magistrate can decide the defendant needs to be tried by the Crown Court which can impose a harsher sentence if they are found guilty. If tried at the Magistrates and either pleads guilty of found guilty, should the Magistrate thinks it is appropriate he can send them to the Crown Court for sentence

Where we went wrong under the Tories Firstly, we had Cameron followed by May .. both of whom indulged in cutting the police numbers by 20,000 Then, and astonishingly, came along Boris who then set about recruiting 20,000 police officers, this seems almost unbelievable, but its true. THE PROBLEM ... As Police Federation reps will tell you, is that many professional, experienced and knowledgeable officer have gone in Camerons purge. Our police forces are now less professional, generally younger and less experienced. The Tories have done the damage - as with everything else What Purge ? Officers leave the Police year in year out, Officers that retire after completing their service in full, they did not replace Officers that left of their own accord or those who were pensioned off if ill , or injured, or died passed away That still left Officers who had 10 20 or plus years service in place to teach the newer less experienced Officers, it is a continual process going back to when the Police were formed no matter who is in Government, the old hands teach the new I remember when Labour brought in Community Support Officers no idea what they were doing, no power of arrests nothing what a waste of money that was
