totally disagree. Why are Croatia great footballers , and why do the worlds most populated nation china not win world cups then? Scotland is ranked something like 11th in the Uefa co efficient out of 55 , yet only 7 nations have lower population densities than scotland. There are a multitude of factors behind why some nations are great at football and others poorer. Scotland punches far above its weight . Population != density, and you shouldn't confuse it as such. Croatia were knocked out in the group stage. Scotland were humilitated and have never done well. The UEFA coefficient clearly isn't very accurate, as there is no way on this earth, someone can say with a straight face that Scotland are the 11th best team in the world. They're not even top 20. Whatever parameters you use to describe population size and density , it still doesn't detract from the fact the most populated countries In the world that play football aren't the best , and never have been. So I think it's quite a poor point to be fair. Croatia may well have been knocked out in the group stage , but again it doesn't detract from my example as Croatia being a great world footballing nation , who got to the World Cup semi final two years ago , and have been consistently good for years. by your population argument , turkey should be playing Germany in the euro final , not Spain (7th most populated) against England which has less people than Italy in 6th. we were and we haven't. Whats your point though? I thought we were looking at why this is? Scotland has punched above its weight , being at one point a more consistent qualifier for tournaments than England , despite the smaller population but has struggled on the big stage even with great squads. what are you talking about? the UEFA co efficient is for Europes 55 nations only , it doesn't imply scotland is the 11th best in the world. We are talking about the euroes, not the World Cup. The co efficient , whatever its flaws , is whats used to rank teams and countries for the various European club and international competitions. Its a fact scotland is 11th however much you disagree with it. |

You won the WC on home soil, playing all your matches at the same dump. You got a 'non' goal - the ball did not cross the line. If Scotland had achieved this I'd be praising my fellow Brits. Vinny you must be thickest poster on the interweb , and thats saying something. We drew with Switzerland. Our game didnt go to penalties though. I can't help it that imaginary country Britain doesn't have a team in the worlds biggest spectator sport . If it had , you might have some sort of point in terms of demanding support. Must be hard for you we give our unconditional support from the bottom of our hearts to our fellow europeans Spain. |
