-- "Having civil servants work out the cost of opposition policies is nothing new. But it can be controversial because the calculations are based on assumptions provided by the government’s political advisors (i.e. the opposition party’s political rivals)." The policy is not an assumption by Government advisors - it is what the Labour Party commit to doing. Take the spending on Dentists - the first section of the Treasury costings shows the source of the claim. In this case Les Streeting and Keir Starmer. But the costs are an assumption.

I guess much more will be revealed in the Labour manifesto on Friday
But more to the point, and more important, WHY has dentistry gone rapidly downhill since 2010 ?
In the area where I live, people are travelling well over 20 miles to see a dentist
At least the Labour Party propose to fix the problem - What would the Tories do if re-elected ... Sweet F A

This is such bullshit. There are dentists everywhere, but not all of them take NHS. Perhaps if we stopped importing people who can't afford to look after themselves then the NHS wouldn't be quite so backlogged in some areas, but none of the mainstream parties will admit to that and will just keep blaming each other whilst offering sweet fa as a solution. In reality, anyone who requires an emergency dentist can just sit and wait to see a dentist on the same day at their local hospital.

You mean like people underestimated Hitler, Galtieri, Pinochet, Franco etc. And even Thatcher. I don't trust the electorate but its the best system we've got. I don't underestimate these people, I just see them for what they are. Its just a pity that so many people are so easily misled.

Look if you dont like the estimates that the Treasury have come up with then supply your own. If the Treasury are wrong what is the correct cost of this policy?

What, that you're easily misled? That's rather self evident.
