The history of that area is highly complicated, but what we can say for absolute certainty is that there was a home for "The Israelites" ( the Jews ) and also for the Palestinians ( mostly Muslim ).
Its a straight forward and simple answer to the question
Of course there should be an independent and free Palestine, its the ONLY solution for both peoples ( the Israeli's & the Palestinians ) to live in peace.
THere is no alternative

Should Palestinian Arabs be given a Palestinian state. If so why yes, or why no.? Yes, provided that they sign up to all the world courts, human and religious rights, non proliferation treaties, ICC, and the like. Then they could perhaps start loving their neighbours.

Should Palestinian Arabs be given a Palestinian state. If so why yes, or why no.? Do they want their own State? - if so why have they not agreed to the numerous previous proposals to set one up.

Phase 1, UN mandate with the recognised territories being run by the UN, from countries with no bias. Chile, Argentina, South Korea, Taiwan, Brazil.
Schools, hospitals, public services, policing carried out for sixty years to ensure that no Hamas thugs remain able to turn it back into an Islamist shithole.
Run the clock down against the bastards.

I’m all for a two state solution, but it has to be a solution, not a problem.
I.e, Not if it’s going to be led by a taliban like cult who will oppress its population with religious tyranny and would constantly be seeing to provoke its neighbour - otherwise there is only going to be decades of suffering as a result.

THere is no alternative Of course there are alternatives. There was an alternative in 1967, prior to the six day war. Gaza was ruled by Egypt and the West Bank ruled by Jordan. People tend to forget that both Egypt and Jordan have a hand in this.

Completely agree, that's why it needs UN intervention for decades in order to suppress the Hamas twats and run the clock down against the indoctrinated so they die out and generations of educated people replace them, capable of thinking rationally, coexisting and not waging war when they take over. This is what was not done in Afghanistan.

All extremism, and all terror attacks are the result of Israel taking Palestinian lands, and keeping the Palestinian people down, and refusing to give them what they rightly deserve. Its Chicken and Egg, or a vicious circle, break the circle by giving the Palestinians what Israel has, and the reason for Hamas to exist goes away.

The reason Hamas exists is because Iran is funding it . Iran would still fund extremists in Palestine I’d it was a seperate state . Unless you think that the people of Gaza support Hamas then it’s obvious that Hamas ( or a form of it ) would exist afterwards.

Their flags were for long enough carrying the words 'Free Palestine' that meant destroy Israel and give the whole of Palestine to the Arabs.

If Palestine was a state and Israel was removed, Hamas would not go away.
Did the Taliban go away when everyone left Afghanistan?
No.
The world turned its back on Afghanistan after it got bored and left millions of Afghans to suffer under a brutal Islamic terrorist regime.
Your have to be morally bankrupt to want that in Palestine. Any hope for a long lasting and peaceful Palestinian state can only come when terrorists and extreme religious groups have no grasp on power.

Its Chicken and Egg, or a vicious circle, break the circle by giving the Palestinians what Israel has, and the reason for Hamas to exist goes away. Not true. Even before the 1948 Arab war to annihilate Israel, there were years of attacks by the Arabs on the Jews / Israelis. The 1948 was followed by two more Arab wars of annihilation against Israel, each time the Israelis were forced to take defensive positions near or on the borders of Palestine for defensive reasons. After the Arab Armies from four (or five) Arab countries were defeated the threat of annihilation continued, Israel was then plagued with serious terrorism. Suicide bombers, car bombs etc. IF at any time between 1948 and roughly 1970 the Arabs had shown a willingness to share Palestine and to live in peace with Israel, there would have been peace and a two state solution would have been possible. The continuation of Terrorism by the Arabs made peace impossible. Is it your opinion that the Arabs should have their own free state even if Israel was not allowed to live in peace, and that 7th Nov could happen again?
