You are of course correct. I suspect that Susan Halls downfall was the current unpopularity of the Tories.
However, it's worth mentioning that this was the lowest turnout since 2012 at just 40 odd percent.
So, as ever, "None of the above" actually won.
I think you're right in that the state of the party didn't help her. However she also came across as inept and nasty. I'm not saying that another candidate would have won, but I do think a better candidate would have had a chance. Fewer than half of those eligible voted and fewer than half of those who voted put their cross for him - hardly a mandate, is it Andy? |

Looks like only I'm going to be 50% happy — ie, Hall won't be elected. Unfortunately, Khan will be. So, unless we get a Labour government that insists London is professionally run, we're in for another four years of a Mayor who's less popular than his party... Talking of popularity. Hall got a larger percentage of the vote in London (which is inherently left wing territory) than the Tories did as a whole throughout the rest of the country. Seems that Tory wets are even less popular than Trump supporting rightwing candidates.  ...looks like trying to be New Labour is a vote loser for the Tories. Who would have thought. |

I would presume for example that Londoner Susan Hall supporters would be talking crap if they claimed to be speaking for the silent majority. |

Presumptions can be based on knowledge such as polls ( iirc you have posted a few poll results ) and other sources of knowledge and experience. |
