It surely speaks for itself - a beefed up section of our Borders & Immigration Agency, with more powers, including similar powers used in counter terrorism, with assistance from MI5, new laws including the right to detain and question those suspected of people smuggling. New laws to track people suspected of people smuggling, and to limit their movements and close down bank accounts. Intelligence gathering has not played a big enough part in stopping the boats, prevention and deterrence is better than trying to cure the problem after it has happened. These powers already exist , the public servants employed in the relevant agencies refuse to implement them effectively , too bothered about ''discrimination' and ''context'' Is the right answer. More laws are pointless if the existing aren't being enforced.

Well bearing in mind everything which I have previously stated - That the Rwanda plan deals with just 1% of asylum seekers, that it is not acting as a deterant, that the costs are utterly ridiculous, and more to the point, that Rishi Sunaks promise to "Stop The Boats", made 16 months ago has not happened .... what is the point of criticising a DIFFERNT approach. ?
For a start off, the new unit will not be a new agency, it will be an arm of the existing UK Immigration & Borders Force.
Co-operating with the EU seems to be looked upon by some posters as a crime - The migrants are coming mostly from France, so lets try a simple question IS IT A GOOD IDEA TO CO-OPERATE WITH FRANCE AND THE EU. ?
I personally am Pro refugee ( genuine refugees ) from Ukraine, Hong Kong, and I am very firmly of the opinion that the UK has to accept a fair quota of genuine refugees escaping war or persecution, same as other countries must also take a fair quota, and this is what Kier Starmer also believes.
I do not believe that migrants should come across the English Channel in small boats, and Keir Starmer also believes this too.
I do not accept that we can take either very large numbers, or unlimited numbers of refugees / migrants, and Keir Starmer is of the same opinion.
The present plan is a complete nonsense, it does not work, it has no signs of working, it costs the tax payer a stupid amount of money, and it does not deal with 99% of asylum seekers.
Move aside Rishi Sunak and lets try a different plan

Move aside Rishi Sunak and lets try a different plan You claim Rwanda was not acting as a deterrent, but even though it has not as yet been implemented, according to the Irish government it was in-fact acting as a deterrent. You also claim Starmers 'Border Security Command' is not a new agency. This is false. This very morning Starmer announced the creation of a 'new' agency that will cost £75 million a year and will apparently work alongside agencies already in place. In other words, more levels of expensive bureaucracy. You mention refugees, but we are not discussing refugees. The cross channel illegal issue has nothing to do with refugees. Refugees do not cross several safe countries before paying people smugglers to get them from safe country A, to safe country B. These people are called criminals or illegal immigrants. If per chance you want to see genuine refugees, google Kutupalong, those poor sods are genuine refugees, people who have lost everything having fled across one border in fear of their lives. As an aside, when in your opinion will enough be enough? The UK population is currently c67 million, it has increased 10 million in twenty years which is why we have a housing crisis and critical infrastructure is at breaking point. Will 80 million be enough? How about 100 million? Is there some point at which even lefties say enough is enough? Or is the UK's destiny to become an overcrowded third world immigrant infested shit tip.

The NEW "Border Command" will not be a new agency, there is only one agency which deals with immigration, and that is The UK Immigration & Border Force.
The new Command is a going to be headed by someone from a senior ex military or police background, and will ensure more co-operation between different agencies such as MI5, UK Immigration & Border Force, the Police and the National Crime Agency.
Also, the money saved from the Rwanda failure will be used to recruit more immigration staff, thereby speeding up assesment of asylum applications and clearing the backlog, and hiring more investigators, and more Border Force officers.
As far as the Rwanda scheme acting as a deterant is concerned - the migrants intent on crossing the English Channel will be fully aware that deportation to Africa represents a tiny fraction of asylum applicants, how can that be a deterant. ?

Perhaps we should do what Egypt does and refuse point blank to accept refugees and keep them out with guns, fences and threats to kill. It seems Egypt can do this and no one bats an eye but if we tried it we would be condemned by the world. If we are a global village perhaps we should all adhere to the same rules. I will make a prediction if Labour win, the channel crossings will increase and setting up safe and legal routes will only attract genuine refugees all other chancers will continue with teh small boat option.

The toxic scandal that could destroy Starmer's Welsh First Minister before his reign has even started: How Welsh Labour's new leader took a vast donation from a businessman twice convicted of drowning the countryside in tonnes of industrial waste Huge earthworks tower over the Gwent Levels, an ancient wetland landscape that covers almost 30-miles of picturesque Welsh coastline, from Cardiff to Chepstow. Rising maybe 150ft, and extending for half-a-mile just east of the Welsh capital, these man-made mountains are shaped like slag heaps and crawled over daily by diesel-belching diggers. The topsoil is riddled with rubble and concrete, plus the occasional car tyre and black bin-liner. Further inland, ramblers walking the coastal footpath have their view www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-13404527/The-toxic-scandal-destroy-Starmers-Welsh-Minister-reign-started.html

Andrew Neil hits the nail on the head - everything that Starmer has suggested has already been tried and failed. Perhaps next time it will be different..

It appears to be a deterrent to staying here for many , according to the ones in Ireland …and that’s before any actually get sent there .
